- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of welding experience or completion of formal welding program
- Valid Colorado driver’s license. Employee will be required to drive one or more District vehicles. Employee must be insurable by the District’s insurance carrier
- Ability to pass District designated post-offer lift test
- Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
- Welding certifications preferred (High pressure Pipe, Low Pressure Pipe, Structural Welder, Welding Certificate, etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of welding, including materials processes, and characteristics of various metals, fluxes, and other materials
- Knowledge of the types and uses of electric and oxyacetylene welding equipment, and heat and weld characteristics
- Knowledge of and skill at fabricating metal components, parts, and fixtures
- Ability to fabricate and weld various types of joints from all positions
- Ability to setup and adjust welding equipment
- Ability to perform layouts of materials, components, and parts prior to welding, to accurately identify weld locations, and perform detailed measurements
- Knowledge of potable water, wastewater, air, gas, and other fluid flow systems
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques, materials, tools, equipment, layouts and set-ups used in plumbing

- Perform skilled repairs and/or modifications to structural metal components of school buildings and structures
- Prepare welding equipment for proper usage. Verify proper energy source and supplies. Prepare the layout of equipment to perform as needed; Move equipment in to proper location to maximize safety, functionality, and quality
- Fabricate metal structures such as grills, grates, catwalks, steel stairs, playground equipment, fences, rails, gates, and other fixtures from structural shapes and plates
- Fuse metal parts together for the repair and maintenance of equipment such as steel furniture, machinery, pipe tubing, castings, and motor vehicle body fixtures requiring the use of either electric, oxyacetylene, or heliarc equipment
- Arrange components and structures for welding, often without use of patters or fixtures
- Assist plumbers in the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, or replacement of plumbing systems in the District.
- Measure, mark, cut, thread, or hammer pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders
- Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment, according to blueprints
- Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, or threading joints
- Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods
- Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment
- Modify, clean, or maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, or related machines or equipment
- Install automatic controls to regulate pipe systems
- Remove and replace warn components
- Operate specialized and demanding machinery such as but not limited to that which is used for trenching (e.g., trencher, backhoe, etc.) to locate, dig, and otherwise aid in construction, upgrade, and repair of lines and pumping stations.
- Recommends standards and specifications for equipment, materials, and workmanship for work performed by staff and outside contractors.
- Respond to emergency or critical incidents in order to confine, resolve, and/or prevent environmentally hazardous conditions
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned by Trades Foreman, Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, or the Executive Director of Facilities.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The primary responsibility of the Steamfitter/Welder is to layout, assemble, install, or maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, or related hydraulic or pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, or sprinkling. Performs specialized welding, cutting, fabricating, and brazing of structures, fixtures, and components. This is a skilled maintenance position requiring journey-level skills and certification and experience in welding and for water distribution, gas, steam, and other pressurized fluid flow systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
