Senior Manager of Category Insights Job Summary:
The Senior Manager of Category Insights will be responsible for enabling Pompeian’s objectives for consumer-centric and customer focused efforts, linking between Field Sales objectives and Marketing initiatives (and vice-versa) while working towards shared business objectives for driving growth for the Pompeian brand and the overall categories in which Pompeian competes, focusing on key national customers. Senior Manager of Category Insights will manage internal and external data sources to uncover insights, conduct actionable analysis, and provide recommendations to maximize resources and execute the opportunities that are uncovered. Seeking a candidate with a strong analytical mindset and journalistic approach that will serve the team to properly utilize syndicated data, consumer and account specific data sources becoming an invaluable and unbiased source of data for internal and external customers. This position will report to the VP of Marketing and will require 25-35% travel to corporate HQ in Baltimore, MD. once a month and travel required for Account presentations as required. The role is remote, preferably seeking a candidate in Maryland, New Jersey or Pennsylvania.
Senior Manager of Category Insights Job Requirements:
- BS/BA required in Marketing, Business or related field
- 7 to 10 years’ experience in Category Management
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in Consumer and Household channel data
- Stratum, EYC Symphony or Circana preferred
- Confidence working with Nielsen Extract data delivery & Nielsen IQ
- Proficient User in Power BI: Must be able to navigate dashboards, filter reports, interpret visualizations, drill down for root cause analysis, and clearly articulate the strategic decisions based on the insights
- Basic User knowledge of Power Apps (They are the end-user or sponsor, not the builder.)
- Retailer specific portal experience
- Walmart Scintilla Retail Link, Aimia Kantar, Target POL, Market 6
- Space Management Program experience preferred
- 3.0 Omni Channel and ePOS & eCOMM data platforms: High Proficiency in interpreting the output (dashboards, reports) to influence assortment, pricing, and promotion strategy and making recommendations based on the data
- Ability to learn new software programs at an accelerated pace and a high “data curiosity” quotient

Senior Manager of Category Insights Responsibilities:
- Support VP of Marketing and VP of Sales joint goal of synergistic leadership and partnership behind the company mission of growing the olive oil market (putting olive oil in every kitchen in America). Help remove silos and ensure we have a consistent story for our customers, our consumers, our stakeholders, and our employees
- Customer Focused:
- Conduct a broad range of strategic business planning functions including, but not limited to, category management (pricing, promotion, assortment, shelving optimizations) space management, and product evaluation, media optimization
- Develop category business reviews, present information, and develop relationships with key National Accounts
- Own data/insights relationship at BJ’s, Amazon, Alb/Sfy, Kroger, Publix, Sam’s, Walmart, and Costco
- Amazon, eComm focus
- Support Salsify data initiatives
- P-O-G development and support on B&M expansion
- Consumer Centric:
- Responsible for generating data-driven insights and help shape Pompeian’s Brand strategies within the marketplace
- Analyze retailing and shopper/consumer behaviors, including building insights and data driven strategies, leveraging macro-economic, consumer, and retail insights leading to clear implications and recommendations
- Partner with Brand Director to optimize media investment choices by working with media agency to set up and analyze optimization studies Media Mix Analysis, Brand Lift studies or matched panel studies as needed
- Partner with Director of Innovation to evaluate opportunities for new product launches and be a trusted consult for research
- Partner with Marketing to track new item launches and benchmark against existing items and/or competitive launches
- Train junior marketers on how to analyze category and item consumption performance to make business recommendations
- Track Sales KPIs/goals (ACV, Sales, Distribution)
- Develop, deploy, and maintain consumer data (Nielsen HH Panel) suite of tools and maintain all consumer data sources, Nielsen, EYC, Stratum
- Identify, measure, and quantify our brand and competitors’ trends and opportunities
- Participate in Weekly Marketing prioritization meetings and Weekly Marketing Leadership Team meetings
- Supervise and Mentor Category Manager, coach, guide and develop to full potential while making recommendations regarding promotions and staffing changes for the future of the function
- Advance function of the Category Management department at Pompeian:
- Continuously look for new ways to grow the olive oil category and the Pompeian olive oil business
- Be an impartial and trusted source of truth for retailers while building case for growing the category at the same time positioning Pompeian for outsized growth
- Responsible for negotiating terms of contracts with data providers and making recommendations for adding, modifying continuing, switching or ceasing inputs
- Cultivate and nurture relationships with cross-functional teams to support strategic company initiatives
- Support data and storytelling needs for NAOOA (North American Olive Oil Association)
- Ensure all projects comply with environmental regulations, and company environmental goals
- Perform duties and tasks per Pompeian’s mission, goals and core values
- Protect and foster the unique culture of positivity and diversity at Pompeian
- All other duties assigned based on the business needs
