About the Department

Position Duties

The Town of Marana is seeking a Cultural Heritage Specialist Assistant to work in the Town Clerk’s Office.  This is a Term-limited temporary position working no more than 30 hours per week and is expected to last up to 12 months.  The individual selected for this position will be eligible for benefits and will participate in the Arizona State Retirement System.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for history and an interest in contributing to the preservation of Marana’s unique heritage.

Expected Hiring Rate: $21.50/hour

Minimum Qualifications

  • Provides collections support with organizing, cataloging, and maintaining archival collections; digitizes items and ensures proper storage methods.
  • Assists with research and documentation by gathering historical information and preparing draft reports, articles, and presentations.
  • Prepares exhibits and programs including setup/takedown of materials and provide logistical support.
  • Data entry, filing, scheduling, preparing correspondence, and other clerical duties in support of heritage activities.

Other Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, public history, museums, cultural studies, historical preservation, archival management, education, public management, or a related discipline. 
  • Over six months of related experience. 
  • Valid Arizona Driver License
  • Complete both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check 

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of Town of Marana and regional history.
  • Proven ability to research and write articles, essays, and reports for general and specialized audiences, and demonstrated ability to perform research using various methods.
  • Familiarity with records management and archival theory, methods, and practice.
  • Skilled in handling and digitizing rare, fragile, or archival materials.
  • Proficient in creating, maintaining, or contributing to online museum or archival catalogs and digital collections.
