About the Role

Kent is seeking an experienced Senior Instrumentation Designer to join our team in Deer Park, TX. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to major projects as part of a collaborative, high-performing EI&C team. We’re looking for a designer with extensive experience in instrumentation and control systems, strong multi-discipline coordination skills, and the ability to mentor junior team members while maintaining technical excellence.

 

Skills and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
• Lead and execute the development of instrument design deliverables including instrument index, I/O lists, cable schedules, and loop diagrams.
• Prepare detailed installation drawings, hookup drawings, wiring diagrams, and junction box layouts.
• Develop panel layouts, marshalling cabinets, and field junction boxes for constructability and safety.
• Perform site walkdowns, P&ID markups, and instrument location verification.
• Review and integrate vendor data packages into project deliverables, ensuring compliance with client and project standards.
• Generate MTOs, BOMs, and other procurement documentation.
• Support construction and commissioning teams with redlines, as-builts, and technical coordination.
• Collaborate with other disciplines (Electrical, Piping, Process, Mechanical) to ensure alignment of design deliverables.
• Mentor and guide junior designers and ensure quality standards are met.
• Participate in client, vendor, and design review meetings.
• Utilize SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools), AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation to prepare and revise drawings.

 

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

 

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/Qualifications/Training/Certification:
• 15+ years of relevant experience in instrumentation design for Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or Power Generation projects.
• Advanced proficiency with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools), AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation.
• Strong understanding of DCS/PLC systems, I/O configuration, and loop checking.
• Deep familiarity with ISA, NEC, PIP, NEMA, UL, and IEC standards.
• EPC/EPCM project experience covering FEED, Detailed Design, and Construction.
• Proven ability to check drawings, ensure code compliance, and lead small design workgroups.
• Excellent problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills.
