Job Description: Smart Start is seeking an Divisional Controller to play a key role in achieving our overall objectives of delivering best-in-class financial reporting. This is a highly visible role that frequently interacts with executive management and external auditors as part of managing the international financial reporting processes. The ideal candidate will have a broad-based international accounting background with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and growing environment. Proficiency in monthly close of international subsidiaries, knowledge of local and US GAAP, world-wide consolidations, cumulative translation adjustments/FX gains and losses, and technical accounting is desired.
Essential Functions:
- Manage the monthly international subsidiaries’ close and consolidations process
- Design processes and procedures that improve international recording and reporting efficiency and accuracy
- Collaborate with external accounting service providers to setup new online ERP systems from Finland and Sweden subsidiaries
- Ensure the accurate elimination of intercompany transactions and recording investment in subsidiaries in the consolidated books
- Collaborate with the external tax team to determine and record year-end tax provision entries affecting both deferred and current taxes for international entities
- Prepare monthly financial reports for the international entities
- Collaborate with the external auditors on the year-end audit of the consolidated financial statements
- Manage special accounting projects for international entities
- Collaborate with international Operations and Finance for the annual budget
Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Master’s degree in accounting or finance and/or CPA a plus
- 5+ years of progressive accounting-related experience
- International reporting experience desired
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Detail-oriented, self-starter with strong sense of urgency
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, employees are required to sit, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. Mobility is required. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis, and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required 50% of the time while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and similar machines.
Working Conditions: Usual office working conditions. Noise level in the work environment is typical of most office environments.
