Substitute CI Teacher – Transition
(Next STEP Transition Program)
Nonunion, at-will, on-call position
POSITION SUMMARY:
The substitute teacher is responsible for specific and general classroom instruction of the students and for directing and supervising job coaches. Reports to the St. Clair County RESA Special Education Director and Next STEP Supervisor. Must have significant knowledge and experience with work-based learning and transition services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education Endorsement preferred.
- At least one year teaching experience with mild cognitively impaired and learning disabled students.
- Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license and be able to obtain a chauffeur's license.
- Must be able to lift students and manipulate wheelchair bound students.
- Experience in implementing work-based learning and transition services.
- Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds, bend, stoop, push, pull, and twist.
- Experience with Positive Behavior Supports and CPI or willingness to be trained.
- CPR and First Aid training preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and conduct daily individualized lesson plans for students in the classroom.
- Design, organize, and plan curriculum within the classroom and community.
- Direct and monitor instructional aide/job coaches in the classroom, school buildings and in the community.
- Prepare, present and maintain assessment evaluation on the progress of students in the classroom and at work sites.
- Write and implement specific transitional goals and objectives on all students.
- Prepare and write a student progress report for each student.
- Conduct and lead caseload IEPs and TEAM meetings.
- Ability to create and maintain work-based learning documentation, forms, and work plans.Support and develop work-based learning opportunities that fit student needs.
- Support determination of eligibility for programs within local districts.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with all staff.
- Understand and utilize learning theory and applied behavioral analysis in the management and instruction of the students.
- Ability to problem solve with students, families, and worksites on potential issues.
- Integrate students into community settings by using daily living skills.
- Responsible for the transportation of students to community-based experiences and work placements.

- Meet all required goals as they relate to students’ success and growth.
- Ensure the safety of all students while providing instruction and guidance.
- Maintain proper care and general maintenance of the classroom.
- Maintain proper supervision of all equipment and material in the classroom.
- Assist in screening, evaluating and securing appropriate supplies, materials, and equipment in the classroom.
- Attend conferences and workshops to promote personal growth and professional knowledge.
- Participate in scheduled field trips, staff meetings and in-service training programs.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment Date: Pending Board approval and successful completion of employee entrance drug screening and background checks.
Work Schedule: Up to school year traditional calendar 185 days.
Salary Range: $19.25/hour
Fringes: Mandatory
Work Day: Standard instructional staff hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.
