Job Summary:

Responsible for coordination and management of Animas Surgical Hospital (ASH) in house lab

operations.

Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor, Director of Outpatient Services

Hourly range: $18.50 - $40.91 (posted hourly range excludes overtime and bonuses which are not guaranteed)



Essential Job Functions:

  • Specimen Testing and Analysis
    • Performs testing and analysis according to ASH lab policies and procedures.
    • Applies proper
    • In coordination with the OR staff, is responsible for collecting, logging, and transferring all laboratory specimens, including cultures and pathology in the OR department.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Performs daily and as needed QC and QA as trained.
    • Coordinates API testing at direction of Technical Consultant.
    • Ensures accuracy and maintenance of competency and proficiency testing records and documentation.
    • Ensures accuracy and maintenance of documentation of QC and validation studies.
    • Ensures test results and QC are being documented appropriately, with required initials, date and time.
    • Identifies problems that may adversely affect testing or reporting of results
    • Investigates reported or identified lab deficiencies or issues and provides summary of findings to Dept Director for review and follow up.
  • Supply and Inventory
    • Oversees and manages lab supply and inventory tracking including:
      • Tracking use and expirations
      • Ordering in a timely manner as to not interfere with testing
      • Coordinating and managing supply storage, ensuring supplies are received and stored according to manufacturer guidelines, and QC’d as received
    • Coordinates with IT and vendors to set up, validate and troubleshoot EHR lab instrument interfaces.
    • Works with ASH clinical departments, lab personnel, and contracted lab services to optimize specimen workflow.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: 2.     Associates in Applied Science with MLT school or a Bachelor's in CLS or a biological science with MLT or MT

Certification, Licensure: MLT or MT (ASCP) preferred.



Physical Requirements:

Position regularly requires use of hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Must be able to use computer keyboard and mouse and lab instrumentation. Specific vision

abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth

perception.

 

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures:

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS – Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel 

  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
