DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Department of Health Services is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced providers of LGBTQ-specialized primary care and related services. Our mission to help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives is supported by our comprehensive array of client-centered services including primary care, mental health, psychiatry, sexual health, pharmacy, case management, nutrition, clinical research, housing services and a food pantry. The Center is one of a handful of Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation specializing in serving LGBTQ people.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Finance and Inventory Supervisor, the Pharmacy Financial Coordinator assists in coordinating pharmacy services including entry and insurance billing, overseeing electronic and paper pharmaceutical billing, and handling accounts receivable collection activity, reconciliation, and research of client discrepancies. This position also assists in handling insurance denials and appeals and coordinates insurance prior authorizations and patient assistance protocols as well as inventory, purchasing, and reporting functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Billing & Reimbursement- 30%
- Maintain accurate patient billing and insurance records in both electronic and hardcopy formats
- Follow up on billing processes, insurance claims, and payment reconciliation
- Perform collections on outstanding claims to ensure timely reimbursement
- Coordinate pharmacy billing activities and communicate issues to appropriate supervisors
- Monitor and resolve discrepancies with vendors and payers
Insurance & Financial Assistance-10%
- Monitor client accounts for required financial screenings and notify appropriate staff
- Coordinate completion of forms for pharmaceutical payment programs, including PAP, PA, and co-pay assistance
- Develop and improve processes to support benefit coordination and medication payment
- Support audits and reporting to ensure financial compliance and accuracy
Inventory & Compliance-10%
- Perform monthly reconciliation, including quarterly inventory counts, weekly 340B audits, and Medi-Cal duplicate discount checks
- Assist with or perform inventory and purchasing tasks, including weekly tracking of controlled substances and top ARV medications
- Conduct RTS checks daily to maintain pharmacy regulatory compliance
- Enhance or develop filing systems to support pharmacy operations
Pharmacy Operations-50%
- Assist with stock checks, ordering, and tracking of medication supplies
- Help prepare and fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
- Support pharmacy pick-up and delivery coordination, confirm patient information, and ensure timely medication handoffs
- Provide in-person pharmacy assistance and respond to patient needs as required
- Perform other pharmacy technician tasks within scope of practice
- Respond to patient inquiries, insurance questions, and refill requests with professionalism and empathy
- Interact with patients, providers, staff, and external partners in a courteous and professional manner
- Participate in on-site and off-site meetings, including 340B compliance, Health Information Systems, and Finance team meetings
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current California Pharmacy Technician license
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in a high pressure professional medical environment
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends and independently
- Understanding of pharmacy billing and insurance resolution
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Proficiency with pharmacy management and other software systems
- National Pharmacy Technician certification preferred
- Proficiency with Pioneer Rx preferred
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish fluency preferred)
The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $68,640 - $71,508 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, dependent on the position offered.
