To maintain complete accountability and responsibility for the quality of services provided through MyMichigan Health Employee Health Services and Wellness activities, the Midland Employee Fitness Program and the Midland Executive Health and Corporate Health Programs. To plan and develop strategic initiatives, implement and evaluate activities and sciences relating to the health and wellness of employees. To direct high quality and cost effective occupational health services to employees, physicians and volunteers. The Director also oversees wellness initiatives for the system as well as has broad oversight of the education for clinical staff and the development and implementation of wellness programs for the system. To ensure compliance that is consistent with MyMichigan Health policies and in compliance with regulatory agency standards (Joint Commission, MDCH, MIOSHA, etc.). Additionally, the director uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements to guide leadership and practice. The Director attains knowledge and competence reflective of current nursing practice; promotes innovation and futuristic thinking by incorporating evidence-based practice and research findings. |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(30%)*Establish and implement goals, both short term and long term that are consistent with MyMichigan Health mission and strategy to develop cohesive and consistent Employee Health Services across the system. (20%)*Oversees the development and implementation of occupational health programs to meet legal and safety requirements to decrease the risk associated with the healthcare profession. (20%)*Oversees the organization’s training and development strategy for the clinical staff to ensure the skills and performance of employees meet the current and future needs. (10%)* Oversees the coordination and implementation of the corporate wellness program. Participates on committees and teams to enhance the wellness and safety within the organization and community. (10%)*Develops and oversees the implementation of policies, procedures. Assesses systems to monitor and improve the quality of Employee Health services and activities for MyMichigan Health system. (10%)*Develops and manages the annual budget for Employee Health, oversees the development and management of the annual budget for Employee Wellness. |
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Achieves objectives for employee safety and wellness using interdisciplinary approach with multiple teams and departments within the health system, nursing, physicians, Safety Team, Infection Prevention, Risk Management, Wellness and Human Resources.
Recruits, hires, manages and develops staff.
Directs the promotion of health/wellness programs across the health system.
Works effectively with the Medical Director and the MyMichigan Health Urgent Care staff physicians.
Acts as a resource for all MyMichigan Health leaders and Employee Health Departments.
Oversees the development and implementation of communication, education and training to all levels of the organization regarding Employee Health programs and activities.
Provides annual job performance reviews for employees under the direct supervision, as well as guidance on annual job performance reviews for employees under indirect supervision. Develop and manage scheduling and pay management procedures in accordance with department policies as needed.
Maintains a high level of productivity and employee safety/wellness by tracking and reviewing productivity and effectiveness of programs and statistics.
Provides leadership and direction in the recruitment of staff.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS
Knowledge of nursing practices and procedures as normally acquired through five years’ experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting.
Knowledge of nursing management as normally acquired through three years’ or greater experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting. Leadership skills needed to effectively lead a group and manage project implementation.
Strong leadership and organizational skills to effectively lead a team of employee/occupational health programs and staff members across the health system. To promote strong teamwork and communication.
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills needed to communicate employee/occupational health components, programs, concepts and objectives in a clear and understandable manner to a variety of audiences, including executive management, staff members, physicians, managers and employees.
Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications such as Word, Excel etc.
Teaching, counseling and conflict management skills.
Knowledge of physical assessment and case management skills.
Knowledge of local, state and federal health and safety regulations such as MDCH, OSHA, and MIOSHA as well as safety, ergonomics, and wellness programs.
Five years experience in employee/occupational health or Clinical Education leadership, minimum of three years supervisory/management experience preferred. |
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
