The School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University is one of the oldest and most renowned design schools in North America. With a focus on interdisciplinary learning, our programs prepare students for real-world design challenges by working collaboratively across fields to develop a holistic understanding of design. Our programs attract students from all over the world who want to develop their innate creative talents, conduct research, and launch or advance their design careers. We are seeking a Research Assistant that will follow research plans to collect, record and manipulate research data, while maintaining accurate and detailed research records.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting exploratory and generative research, including developing research protocols, conducting field studies, and gathering qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Analyze data to identify key insights, patterns, and opportunities.

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute to the conceptualization, design, and prototyping of innovative solutions.

  • Maintain detailed records of research activities and findings. Prepare reports and presentations to share progress and insights.

  • May test software prototypes. May interact with research subjects in order to perform job functions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred

  • 1-3 years of data collection and analysis experience

  • 1-3 years of record management experience

  • 1-3 years of research experience

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with research methods and data analysis

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in using digital tools for research and design
