East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Tradesman Helper (Electrical)! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains ofPennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia providesconvenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutesfrom campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water GapRecreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreationalfun.

As the Tradesman Helper, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable assisting electricians and maintenance repairmen with various semi-skilled tasks. You will be an active member of the Facilities Management team and will work closely with the Facility Operations Supervisor utilizing best practices to ensure campus buildings are in peak condition. You will thrive in this role if you like combining experience from previous apprenticeships and your aptitude to understand the innerworkings of the electrical trade all while complying with federal, state, & local ordinances. To be successful in this role, the person must show willingness to learn beyond assigned tasks, be reliable, and complete tasks with strong detail.  

Your normal hours will be Sunday to Thursday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Tradesman Helper. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.  

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Participate in on-the-job training to learn the practices, methods, and techniques of the electrical
    and maintenance trades
  • Perform semi-skilled and unskilled tasks to develop proficiency.
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit using hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Drill holes and route wiring through walls and other structures using hand and power tools.
  • Thread conduit ends, connect couplings, and fabricate support brackets.
  • Trace electrical faults or short circuits using test meters under supervision.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship, or a minimum of 1 year of electrical trade school.
  • Must have an active non-commercial driver’s license.
  • Able to quickly pivot between work tasks when unplanned events occur that need immediate attention.
  • Able to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
