Role: The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the overall management and security of the Credit Union network. This includes overseeing the development and evaluation of network performance metrics, network security, and the evaluation of current and future business requirements. Directs and controls the design, analysis, planning and implementation of network components. This role is responsible for ensuring the protection of sensitive electronic data confidentiality, integrity and accountability.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Ensures that network engineering work is prioritized in alignment organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
- Assists with all current and future projects as they relate to network communication systems. Manages and coordinates system changes, expansions, and upgrades on all network hardware, software and network communications.
- Ensures network systems (routers, switches, etc.) are operating effectively. Identifies and evaluates opportunities to improve network infrastructure.
- Assists with the design, development and implementation of network policies and strategy for network based on business risk.
- Manages the prevention, detection, containment and correction of security breaches with credit union networked information resources.
- Manages multiple 3rd party vendor relationships for support/consulting on technical systems. Fosters effective and professional connections with vendors vital to the operation of communications.
- Executes IT compliance plans and conducts periodic reviews to ensure continued compliance; ensures that network requirements are addressed during all phases of the system life cycle.
- Performs proactive security functions and directs reactive network IP defensive measures to ensure the availability, integrity and confidentiality of credit union networked information resources coordinating with the IT information security team.
- Ensures all network systems are designed in compliance with all applicable security policies.
- Consults with other Credit Union business units or departments regarding their changing business and technical plans to ensure that network solutions are aligned with corporate policies and strategies.
- Covers network administrator job functions when needed in their absence.
- Provides input on the annual budget process for the applicable cost center expenditures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Experience: Seven or more years of IT networking experience with medium to large network(s) and organizations. Strong understanding of modern networking concepts and computer/network security practices and applications. Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN networking environments. Has prior experience with network security assessment tools and topologies. Knowledge and experience of the principles, practices and methods of network administration and maintenance, including configuration, operation of network systems, performance tuning and techniques for layout and design. Basic knowledge of Credit Union products and services, features, and benefits. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the following preferred: TCP/IP configuration, directory service protocols, routing, firewalls, VPN, IDS/IPS systems Network software and hardware installations and upgrades Network architectures, network email technologies, topologies and protocols Internet/Intranet technologies and design concepts and techniques Performing connectivity testing and network analysis and troubleshooting Network systems analysis and design Desired: Financial institutions network system architectures, characteristics and components applicable to LAN/WAN networks, computer platforms/operating environment used at the Credit Union.
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, security engineering or similar area of study, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, required. Job specific certification may serve as an appropriate equivalent to a college degree. One or more current network certifications (i.e. Network + etc.), required.
