Senior Environmental Laboratory Technician
Our Laboratory Services team is hiring a Senior Environmental Laboratory Technician to support regulatory compliance of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) which ensures safe drinking water for our customers, and the Clean Water Act (CWA) which protects our source waters and environment. You will accomplish this through facilitating projects in the Laboratory Sample Receiving area. You will be responsible for setting up, receiving, and distributing samples throughout the General Chemistry, Microbiology, Metals, and Organics laboratories. What Else Will You be Doing?
- Supporting laboratory project preparation using various tools, instruments, and applications
- Managing laboratory sample receiving to ensure sample flow from the field to the laboratory area for analysis
- Leveraging our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to manage our lab samples, including preparing samples for shipment to other laboratories, and receiving and distributing samples to analytical areas
- Coordinating laboratory analyses with analytical areas
- Reviewing, interpreting, and validating laboratory and field analysis data
Who You Are
Due to the nature of this job with managing and preparing lab samples, coordinating sample analyses, and analyzing data, the successful candidate will be detail-oriented and able to adapt and change course to meet competing priorities and demands. Additionally, the following technical knowledge and experience is valued for this role:
- Demonstrated experience within a laboratory environment (e.g., sample collection, processing, analysis)
- Experience with utilizing Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Knowledge of chemistry or biochemistry principles
- Knowledge of water and wastewater collection, distribution, and treatment principles
- Knowledge of standard methods and procedures for microbiological and chemical testing and analyses of water and wastewater samples, including quality control measures
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and EPA regulations
- Knowledge of SDWA and CWA
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required; operating Colorado Springs Utilities' vehicles to perform field work is an essential job function
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Exerts 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
- Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
