Position Summary
The Indirect Tax Director will lead all aspects of indirect tax strategy, compliance, planning, and risk management across IES Holdings and its subsidiaries. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with state, local, and international indirect tax regulations (including sales & use tax, property tax, excise, VAT/GST, and other transactional taxes), while driving efficiencies in tax processes, supporting business operations, and identifying strategic opportunities to optimize the company’s tax profile.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and oversee the company’s overall indirect tax strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
- Advise senior leadership on the financial, operational, and compliance impacts of indirect tax policies and legislative changes.
- Partner cross-functionally with business units, finance, accounting, procurement, and operations to provide strategic tax guidance.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all indirect tax filing and payment obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Manage audits and inquiries from tax authorities, mitigating risk and ensuring favorable outcomes.
- Develop and implement strategies that drive process improvements and reduce property tax exposure.
- Monitor evolving tax regulations, assess their impact on the business, and implement necessary changes.
Process & Systems
- Lead the design and implementation of best practices, process improvements, and tax technology solutions to streamline indirect tax compliance.
- Oversee the accuracy of tax determination systems and work closely with IT and finance teams to ensure proper configuration.
- Build and maintain effective internal controls related to indirect tax.
Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing indirect tax team.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters.
Advisory & Business Support
- Provide indirect tax analysis for new business initiatives, contracts, and supply chain decisions.
- Collaborate with external advisors, consultants, and auditors as necessary.
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field required.
- CPA, JD, or advanced degree in Taxation preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive indirect tax experience, with significant leadership responsibility.
- Proven expertise in U.S. sales & use tax and property tax.
- Prior experience in a complex, multi-entity organization (public company experience strongly preferred).
- Strong track record of managing audits and regulatory inquiries.
- Experience implementing and managing tax technology solutions (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, ONESOURCE).

- Ability to translate complex tax concepts into practical guidance for non-tax stakeholders.
