At AT&T, we empower leaders to drive change in a fast-evolving, connected world. Your strategic vision will help serve customers and transform lives through innovative solutions and impactful connections.
Overall Purpose: Responsible for driving the development, execution, and lifecycle management of residential gateway devices and related firmware/services supporting Internet Air and other 5G/fixed wireless and broadband offerings. Ensures alignment with customer needs and business objectives by defining strategy, roadmaps, and requirements; engaging open-source communities (e.g., prpl); and coordinating cross-functional delivery across Labs, RAN, CPE, IT, and Operations. Manages the business case and P&L impacts to deliver high-quality, secure, and stable connectivity solutions that maximize customer value at scale.
Key Roles and Responsibilities: Typical tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Product Lifecycle Management:
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle for residential gateways and their firmware stacks (e.g., prplOS), from concept through launch, scale, and end-of-life.
- Drive release readiness, staged OTA rollouts, and rollback strategies to ensure performance, stability, and upgrade success at scale.
- Define success metrics (e.g., crash-free rate, MTBF, upgrade success rate, attach success) and track post-launch performance and customer satisfaction.
- Manage budgets and capital requests, coordinate estimates and funding through the capital process.
- Coordinate with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality, sales support, and marketing as products move into production and distribution.
• Define and Document Requirements:
- Translate customer problems, business goals, and technical constraints into PRDs, epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria for gateways that support 5G/FWA and broadband.
- Specify requirements for telemetry, device management, and security
- Prioritize backlogs and tradeoffs in alignment with capacity, cost, and schedule, leveraging Agile SDLC best practices.
- Use GenAI within the SDLC to accelerate PRD drafting, test-case generation, log clustering/triage, and release notes, with appropriate data/privacy guardrails.
- Prepare and present business cases that quantify outcomes (revenue, margin, cost-to-serve, RMA reduction).
• Conduct Market Research and Analysis:
- Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape in residential gateways, open-source firmware, and Wi‑Fi (6/6E/7) to inform strategy and differentiation.
- Analyze silicon/OEM roadmaps (e.g., Qualcomm, MediaTek) and RAN/5G standards evolution (NSA/SA) to align device capabilities and timelines.
- Size addressable opportunities, model volumes/revenues, and assess cost structures and risks to guide portfolio decisions.
• Develop and Maintain Product Roadmaps:
- Build and maintain multi-quarter roadmaps spanning firmware, hardware variants, device management
- Define clear milestones, go/no-go criteria, and KPIs; publish service guides, product documentation, and results analyses.
- Drive initiatives to grow revenue and margin through feature differentiation (e.g., Wi‑Fi 8 capabilities), cost optimization, and customer experience improvements.
- Plan upstreaming and consumption strategies with the prpl/open-source community for sustainable velocity and security posture.
• Collaborate with Stakeholders and UX Design:
- Partner closely with Technology Development (IT, Labs, RAN, CPE), Technology Operations, Care/Field Ops, and Supply Chain to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
- Act as liaison with external OEM/silicon partners and the prpl open-source community to align goals, SLAs, and deliverables.
- Work with Contracting, Legal, Product Marketing, and Pricing to shape offers, negotiate cost/feature tradeoffs, and support launch plans.
- Communicate progress, risks, and mitigation plans to senior leadership with clear, data-backed updates; lead cross-functional forums to resolve issues quickly.
- Ensure a high-quality user experience across setup, activation, and in-life management, incorporating usability feedback into the roadmap.
Job Contribution: An experienced professional and domain expert in device product management who creatively resolves complex issues using broad and deep knowledge of 5G/FWA, CPE firmware, and open-source ecosystems. Leads significant, cross-functional programs with strategic autonomy; influences executive decisions with clear analyses; mentors less experienced staff; implements long-term plans that impact the organization; and frequently collaborates with senior leadership.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) desired in Marketing, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of related experience in product management with end-to-end SDLC ownership—ideally in residential gateways/CPE, embedded firmware, or networking devices.
- Strong analytic and fact-based decision-making skills; proficiency in defining and tracking KPIs and running data-driven postmortems.
- Demonstrated ability to translate vision into detailed requirements and ship stable, high-performing releases at scale.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and modern CI/CD for firmware; familiarity with device security
- Domain knowledge of fixed wireless/5G standards (NSA/SA), RAN interactions, gateway hardware, and Wi‑Fi (6/6E/7); understanding of TR‑181, TR‑069, TR‑369 USP, and telemetry.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; proven success aligning cross-functional and external partners.
- Certifications may be required in some areas; Agile/Scrum or product certifications are a plus.
