About the Department
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for an Engineer/Architect 1 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you Will Be Doing:
- Develops, scopes, bids, administers, and tracks a variety of M&O support contracts, including supply, construction, and professional services, funded through multiple sources.
- Prepares and seals detailed plans, specifications, and estimates for highway, aviation, and facility projects; manages contract support and design services for Maintenance and Operations.
- Provides field administration and inspection oversight for contracts, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards—may require travel to remote sites by vehicle, boat, or small aircraft.
- Coordinates with utilities, Right-of-Way, environmental, and public stakeholders to support project delivery and compliance with federal and state program requirements.
- Serves as primary M&O contact for AASHTOware and related program tracking; assists with seasonal weight restrictions, emergency response documentation, and funding program administration (FHWA, FAA, FEMA, State).

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is based in Fairbanks at the DOT&PF complex on Peger Road, where design, construction, maintenance, and support staff are all within walking distance. The M&O Support Team works on capital project delivery, planning, reconnaissance, and innovation through daily collaboration in the office, field, and on Microsoft Teams. - Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
- Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
- Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
Position Duties
Engineer/Architect 1
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.
Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.
Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
Minimum Qualifications

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
**This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy is an Engineering Assistant 3, Engineering Associate, or Engineer/Architect 1 position. At this time the position is being filled at the Engineer/Architect 1 level due to business needs.
