Detailed Job Description
RIT is committed to being a student-centered research university. As part of that commitment, faculty active in research are provided with a low teaching load. Assistant professors are offered pre-tenure teaching release time to establish their research program. Traditionally, a mid-tenure review occurs in the third year, with tenure review during year six, after which the teaching load will be adjusted according to the intensity of the research load. RIT is also positioned to provide excellent competitive startup funding for PhD students, equipment, and travel in support of building an outstanding research program. The university provides support for gaining external funding, including several internal seed funding opportunities.

Department/College Description
The Department: Computer Science (https://cs.rit.edu) is the largest department at RIT. Our student-centered programs are home to over 1,400 students pursuing BS, MS, BS/MS, and PhD degrees. Our innovative problem-based introductory programming sequence has been continuously updated, in part through research projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The BS in Computer Science program at RIT is ranked 54th in the latest U.S. News and World Reports ranking of Best Undergraduate Computer Science Programs. Additionally, the MS in Computer Science program at RIT is ranked 71st in the latest U.S. News and World Reports ranking of Best Graduate Computer Science Programs. We have enhanced our research presence while maintaining our commitment to excellence in student instruction. Our faculty publishes in top-tier venues and contributes to leading conferences and journals. Students at all levels participate in research projects, including through NSF-sponsored undergraduate research programs. Our PhD students have made meaningful contributions to their respective areas and gone on to secure excellent positions in industry and academia.
