Laboratory Technician I, II
TECHNICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT, LABORATORIES SECTION, A. K. WARREN WATER RESOURCE FACILITY WATER QUALITY LABORATORY, PROCESS CONTROL GROUP: CARSON
This position requires a variable work schedule with non-consecutive days off and working all weekends and all holidays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To collect environmental samples and perform a variety of routine chemical, biological or microbiological tests and analyses.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of a Supervising Scientist, the incumbent conducts and participates in a variety of routine chemical and biological analyses on aqueous and solid samples from sanitary landfills, industrial waste, food waste, wastewater treatment facilities, and bodies of water receiving effluents to determine the effectiveness of treatment and conformance with California and Arizona regulatory requirements; prepares standard solutions and reagents; inspects, adjusts, cleans, maintains and operates laboratory equipment, automated samplers, and work areas; inputs data into computers and LIMS; keeps laboratory records; collects samples from the Warren Facility; and performs related duties as required.
The LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I is the entry level training class in the series. Incumbents follow standardized procedures or detailed instructions to perform a limited range of laboratory tests.

- Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires will be reviewed and evaluated for relevant experience and/or coursework.
- Written exam will take place at the A.K. Warren Water Resource Facility on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
- Candidates considered to have the best qualifications will be invited to the written examination.
- The selection process will consist of a written test weighted at 50%, and an interview weighted at 50%. A final selection interview will be completed by section supervisors and managers.
- Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process.
