Chadds Ford and Unionville Elementary Schools

 

Hours:  8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

 

10-month position - 5.5 hours per, 182 days per year

 

Hourly Rate:  $14.37 per hour

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Reading Support Paraprofessional is a member of the elementary support staff team, primarily responsible for assisting teachers and Reading Specialists in delivering targeted literacy intervention. This role focuses on providing direct student instruction, conducting formal assessments, and closely monitoring progress for students in grades K-5 who require reading support.

 

The Paraprofessional is expected to work independently and collaboratively, utilizing strong organizational and interpersonal skills to manage student data, provide one-on-one and small-group instruction, and complete essential administrative tasks. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill, and/or ability necessary.

  1. Education: High School Diploma or higher.
  2. Skills: Demonstrated computer skills, strong written and oral communication, and the proven ability to work independently while handling interruptions.
  3. Disposition: Must maintain a positive, professional, and child-centered attitude with the ability to effectively meet the diverse emotional, social, and academic needs of students.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations.  To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

  1. Targeted Student Instruction: Provide direct reading instruction, primarily to struggling Kindergarten students in small groups and individual settings, and facilitate the Read Naturally program for students in grades 2–5 to develop fluency.
  2. Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct formal student assessments using tools like Fountas and Pinnell and DIBELS during benchmark periods, and perform regular (monthly/biweekly) progress monitoring.
  3. Data and Documentation: Maintain meticulous anecdotal records on student progress and assist the Reading Specialist with administrative support tasks to ensure efficient program operation.
  4. Support and Confidentiality: Consistently exercise good judgment while supervising students and maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information and academic records.
  5. Regular and consistent attendance.
  6. Other duties may be assigned by the principal

Physical Requirements

  1. Mobility: The employee is required to maintain a stationary position (e.g., sitting or standing) and move about frequently to access multiple classrooms, file cabinets, and office equipment.
  2. Manual Dexterity: Must have the ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment, such as a copier and printer.
  3. Lifting/Moving: Ability to lift and/or exert up to 20 pounds of force to occasionally move objects (e.g., files, supplies, equipment).
  4. Observation: Requires the ability to observe, inspect, identify, and determine the accuracy of written documentation and fine details (e.g., reading student records, reviewing data).

Working Conditions

  1. Communication: Employee is frequently required to communicate and interact effectively in person or by email with staff and administrators.
  2. Environment: The position involves meeting deadlines with time constraints, requiring strong organizational and time-management skills.
  3. Interactions: Requires frequent interaction with staff.

Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check (Act 34)

Federal Criminal History Record Check (Act 114)

Act 168 Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release:  Unionville-Chadds Ford School District uses an online process for submission and processing of required Act 168 forms. Candidates will receive information as necessary during the selection process.
