About the Department

The Math Department is accepting applications to be considered for adjunct instruction for the following courses:

  • MATH 70 - Pre-Algebra
  • MATH 72 - Beginning Algebra
  • MATH 97 - Intermediate Algebra

Those applicants with appropriate master's degree and/or applicable professional experience will also be considered for the following courses:

  • MATH& 107 - Math in Society
  • MATH 108 - Contemporary Math for Information Technology
  • MATH 109 - Mathematical Models in Gaming
  • MATH& 141 - PreCalculus I
  • MATH& 142 - PreCalculus II
  • MATH& 146 - Introduction to Statistics
  • MATH 147 - Finite Mathematics-Business and Social Science
  • MATH& 148 - Business Calculus
  • MATH& 151 - Calculus I
  • MATH& 152 - Calculus II
  • MATH& 163 - Calculus III
  • MATH& 131 - Mathematics for Elementary Education I
  • MATH& 132 - Mathematics for Elementary Education II

Adjunct instructors are appointed quarter to quarter based on student enrollment. The number of classes offered to each instructor varies each quarter based on enrollment; however, 2-3 classes per quarter is typical. Salary for each class depends on level of education and number of credits taught. 

Applicants should be available to teach classes in the hybrid or in-person modalities on Green River College main campus during the daytime.

Online classes, evening classes, Kent campus classes, and Enumclaw campus classes may also be available in certain quarters.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees.  Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw.  Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • To teach pre-college level courses: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, statistics, or a related field 
  • To teach college level courses: Master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, statistics, or a related field; or professional experience in mathematics or related field
  • Availability to teach hybrid or in-person classes on Green River College main campus during the daytime

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, statistics, or a related field; or professional experience in mathematics or related field 
  • Prior math teaching experience
  • Experience teaching in multiple modalities of instruction (in-person, hybrid, and online)
  • Experience using Canvas, WAMAP, and/or Hawkes Learning System

Health Benefits:
Adjunct faculty may become eligible for benefits if they work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only).

Newly-hired adjunct faculty are eligible for PEBB insurance benefits when they have taught 50 percent or more of a full-time workload* for two consecutive quarters at one or more public higher education institutions, going on benefits the start of the second quarter at 50% or more. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the Public Employees Benefits Board.
 
Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIAA-CREF) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice.   The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIAA-CREF) is 50 percent of a full-time workload* at one or more college districts or the State Board for two consecutive quarters. There may be other options available under limited circumstances.
