The National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH) brings together world-leading researchers from Cardiff, Swansea and Bangor Universities to learn more about the triggers and causes of mental health problems. This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly successful and innovative NCMH team based at Cardiff University's flagship Hadyn Ellis Building, Maindy Road, Cardiff. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Manager to join our team at the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH).
Responsibilities to include:
o Manage and maintain NCMH research data.
o Provide leadership and management to the NCMH data team.
o Liaise with NCMH team members to ensure that data is collected, recorded, and reported accurately.
o Ensure that data protection regulations are adhered to, and that all data is handled and stored securely.
o Manage data access requests and be the point of contact for queries relating to NCMH data from both internal and external stake holders.
o Develop and implement data policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Centre’s data management practices.
To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will:
o Have experience in a data manager or similar analytical role.
o Have a good understanding of data management systems and processes.
o Have knowledge of data protection regulations and the ability to handle and store data securely.
o Have knowledge in efficiently managing large volumes of complex research data/databases
o Be highly organised.
o Be an excellent communicator.
o Have experience in managing others.

The post is full time (35 hours per week), available immediately and is fixed term until 31st March 2028.
The post is based at the Hadyn Ellis Building, Cathays campus.
The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under “blended working” arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed.
Salary: £41,064 - £46,049 per annum (Grade 6).
Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in
exceptional circumstances.

Job Description
Support the National Centre for Mental Health as Data Manager, carrying out supporting work, providing advice, guidance and support, and leading projects within this area.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Duties
• To provide professional advice and guidance on NCMH data management processes and procedures to internal and external customers that will have institute wide impacts, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring understanding of complex and conceptual issues.
• To manage the operation of the NCMH Data Management team, which will include:
- Planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required.
- Managing the performance, induction and development of the team.
- Supporting and guiding team members in welfare issues, escalating as necessary to specialist support areas.
- Ensuring the delivery of the team’s service level agreements, adapting these according to changes in workload and customer requirements.
• To investigate and analyse specific issues relating to NCMH data management, creating recommendation reports and actioning and embedding recommendations where agreed.
• To ensure an efficient and effective delivery of the NCMH data service to both internal and external customers, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements.
• To develop and manage effective working relationships and networks with key internal and external stakeholders, including partner HE institutions and the NHS. Further, to take an active role in the overall management and development of NCMH, providing support and specialist knowledge to other team members.
• Coordinate and contribute to small-scale projects as part of a multi-team environment, including planning, designing, and automating workflows, processes, and data documentation.
• To develop and deliver training related to NCMH data.
• To undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the NCMH and Division.
Specific Duties
• To coordinate and manage research data related to NCMH, which will include:
- Managing data quality and integrity checks.
- Validate and manage data outputs for external use, ensuring quality and resolving discrepancies through established procedures
- Oversee the maintenance and security of core databases, ensuring access control and documentation are consistently managed
- Managing the cleansing and upload of data.
- Managing the production and updating of SOPs in relation to data collection and processing.
- Developing and managing customer-focussed service delivery methodologies based on the principles of transparent data.
- Developing and managing a data showcase to encourage use of data by both internal and external customers.
- Conducting periodic reviews of best practice, providing recommendation reports for improvements and implementing and embedding new practices as agreed.
- Managing the production of reports and other research data for the NCMH Director and/or other stakeholders.
- Managing NCMH data access policies and procedures, including data access requests and providing access to data/samples.
- Ensuring NCMH data is compliant with relevant ethical, Research and Development (R&D), Human Tissue Authority (HTA) and data protection regulations/guidelines.
- Performing data analysis and contributing intellectually through the interpretation of data.
- To understand and organize complex legacy and newly acquired datasets, anticipate future data inflow and documentation needs.

3. Experience of working with electronic databases (such as REDCap) for data entry and management using Electronic Case Report Forms (eCRFs).

Able to demonstrate specialist knowledge about data processing and health data including data protection regulations to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers; key advances within database management and working within data management; database maintenance (which should include curating or managing research data.)
