Position Summary:

The Student Well-Being Coordinator will lead and coordinate trauma-informed, culturally competent mental health training to educate campus community members in supporting student needs. The coordinator will lead health promotion efforts at Fort Lewis College by providing education, training and increased awareness around issues including suicide, substance misuse, sexual assault and harassment, as well as physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The coordinator will oversee Fort Lewis College’s Wellness Peer Advisory Council (WellPAC) and their programming efforts to ensure all align with FLC’s strategic plan and best serve our diverse student body.

Job Description:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and evaluates health promotion programs and activities to support the personal and professional health and well-being of students in collaboration with professional staff, faculty, and students alongside the Grub Hub Operations Coordinator

Coordinate, facilitate and/or arrange facilitation of campus-wide classes, trainings, and workshops regularly alongside the Grub Hub Operations Coordinator throughout the academic year, including but not limited to:

  • Schedule and share information about upcoming classes, trainings, and workshops with the campus community (staff, faculty, and students) alongside the Grub Hub Operations Coordinator
  • Track and maintain accurate records of registration, attendance, and/or certification for student well-being training sessions
  • Research and implement best practices for mental health, substance use, and sexual assault prevention according to community needs
  • Engage in personal professional development and improving institutional standards and metrics around student well-being work to assess and ensure campus knowledge hits strategic and national targets
  • Provide leadership in alcohol and other drug prevention programming and document compliance requirements (including Biennial Review)
  • Lead campus-wide efforts to support suicide prevention, intervention and postvention
  • Serve as the Advisor to the Student Wellness Peer Advisory Council (WellPAC)
  • Work closely with both off-campus partners and on campus resources, such as the Student Involvement Center, Housing, and Academic Affairs, on the coordination and enhancement of programs and services

  • Identify and stay up to date with the network of on and off campus services to assist students; represent campus student well-being interests when appropriate in community coalitions.

  • Train, assess, and oversee student leaders in providing health and well-being programming to their peers
  • Collaborate with the Diversity Collaborative and FLC’s affinity centers to offer specific and relevant prevention programming to support marginalized students
  • Support Director of Student Well-Being and Peer Support Assistant in supervising Peer Support Staff
  • Implement assessment strategies to ensure programs are intentional and effective
  • Manage the data reporting and tracking required by relevant grant requirements
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508
  • Produce and remediate digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Health Services, or related field
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as experience working with broadly diverse communities
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to handle problems with compassion
  • Experience in creating programming in trauma informed care and designing post-crisis interventions
  • One or more years of experience instructing and/or leading public presentations

Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:

  • 2 or more years of experience with training groups in prevention related activities and strategies
  • 2 or more years of experience working in wellness education, or on a college campus
  • Grant management training or experience

Reports To / Supervisory Responsibility:

Reports to Director of Student Well-Being. Supervises Peer Support Staff, undergraduate interns and WellPAC student leaders.

Travel:

Less than 5% of travel time is expected for this position.

  • Typical work hours are 8am-5pm Monday through Friday. 

Salary

The salary range for this position is $49,000 to $54,500, plus a comprehensive benefits package
