Job Title: Paint & Body B-Technician
Division: Operations

Hourly Pay Rate: $23.40 (per union contract)
POSITION PURPOSE:
Repairs and paints transit vehicle interior and exterior components; repairs structural transit vehicle members. This is a semi-skilled position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in developing a repair plan and provide repair and cost estimates.
- Repair or assist with the rebuilding, replacing, repairing and/or painting transit vehicle bodies, frames, interiors and structural members.
- Replace or repair damaged body and frame parts, engine parts, HVAC parts, and wiring harnesses.
- Inspect completed work and maintain accurate records of work orders.
- Ensure a smooth and uniform finish, working with precision and attention to detail.
- Senior Technicians are responsible for mentoring junior Paint and Body Shop personnel on proper procedures, structural repair techniques, material safety, painting, and other miscellaneous.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
In addition to a High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate, the following are required for each level, per Union contract:
B-Technician
- Two (2) years or more of automotive and fender rebuilding and repairing, painting, and welding experience or graduation from an approved training program.
- Transit, truck or automotive body and fender rebuilding; certification preferred.
- Painting, welding, metal and fiberglass fabrication; certification preferred.
- Paint and body tools including spray gun equipment.
- Welding certification up to ½ inch plate; higher certification preferred
A-Technician
- One (1) year as a Paint & Body B-Technician
- Completion of ASE training and testing requirements, including but not limited to the following:
- B-2 Painting and Refinishing
- B-3 Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair
- B-4 Structural Analysis and Damage
Sr. Technician
- One (1) year as a Paint & Body A-Technician
- A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Certification in welding, including ARC, GAS, MIG, and TIG
- ASE B-5 Mechanical/Electrical Components
Machines, Tools, & Equipment Used:
- Paint and body tools.
- Computer programs: Word, Excel, e-mail systems feature, etc.
- Office equipment: printer, calculator, fax, copier, telephone mail systems, etc.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Florida Driver's License; must obtain Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class (B) with “P” (Passenger) endorsement within the first 90 days of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic methods, materials, tools and equipment used in automotive body work and/or painting of vehicles.
- Working knowledge of occupational hazards, precautions and safety requirements of the associated job duties.
- Care of materials, i.e. decals, metal, glass and wood.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize assignments in order to meet established deadlines.
- Ability to learn safe operation of transit vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of personalities.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance, when required.
- Ability to work various shifts, hours and days.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to be an effective team player.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
- Ability to hear, see, speak, and perceive color, depth and texture.
- Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.
- May be exposed to potentially intimidating and/or unreceptive members of the public; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, extreme noise and physical harm.
