General Summary

  • The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for the daily operations of the Medical Staff office, coordination of Medical Staff activities, communication with administration and department managers relating to Medical Staff problems, concerns, and communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures The Joint Commission and other relevant accreditation agency standards, policies, and procedures are met with regard to medical staff credentialing methods.

  • Prepares, disseminates, collects, reviews and processes applications for appointment and reappointment to the Medical Staff; requests for change in department, privileges, and/or Staff status according to established policy and procedures.

  • Performs primary source verification of practitioner data, running queries in the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), and ensuring that credentialed files are complete and maintained in an accurate, efficient and timely manner.

  • Keeps Administration informed of Medical Staff concerns/issues. Is responsive to Administration, Department Directors, and Physician requests.

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or equivalent experience in related business/secretarial medical field preferred.


Work Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in credentialing within the insurance, acute care hospital, or other entity involved in credentialing required.


Certification/License

  • Certified in Medical Staff Credentialing preferred.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Considerable mental concentration. Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral and written communications. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
