The Thermal Sensor Subject Matter Expert (SME) position is a critical role within our global engineering organization, responsible for shaping the future strategic direction and driving the execution of advanced development programs across all Stoneridge Control Devices systems. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in high-temperature EGT sensors and related environments, enabling Stoneridge to strengthen its technical leadership and competitive position in these markets.

THE SENSING ELEMENT SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT AT STONERIDGE WILL PARTICIPATE IN:

The Sensing Element Subject Matter Expert at Stoneridge will play a global role in strengthening our leadership in thermal sensing technologies. This role will focus on materials, design, and manufacturing expertise for ceramic and precious metal sensing elements, supporting both product development and industrialization. The SME will serve as a technical authority, enabling best-in-class product performance, robust manufacturing processes, and long-term value creation across our sensing portfolio.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for sensing elements in thermal sensing products, with a focus on ceramic and precious metal technologies.
  • Provide materials and process expertise to support global manufacturing operations and supplier development.
  • Define design and process standards for sensing elements to ensure reliability, durability, and performance under harsh operating environments.
  • Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving for critical product or process issues in production and field applications.
  • Collaborate with product engineering, advanced manufacturing, and supply chain teams to establish best practices for sensing element integration.
  • Support customer discussions on sensing element performance, durability, and reliability to reinforce Stoneridge’s reputation as a trusted technology partner.
  • Develop intellectual property and technical roadmaps for sensing element materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers globally on sensing element technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Materials Science, Ceramic Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related engineering discipline is required; MS preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in product development and/or manufacturing of high temperature sensing elements, ceramics, or precious metal components.
  • Proven expertise in materials characterization, processing, and performance evaluation for ceramics and/or metals.
  • Experience supporting industrialization of advanced high temperature sensing elements and working with high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated success in intellectual property creation (patents, publications, technical papers).
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory methods, analytical tools, and validation strategies for sensing elements.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate in a global environment with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support global manufacturing, customer engagement, and technical leadership.
