The School of Healthcare Business and Technology seeks an innovative and entrepreneurial Director for Data Science and Analytics to join our team and lead this new, high-impact initiative. This role will offer a unique opportunity to shape the future of data science at MCPHS, guiding faculty strategies, program development, and collaboration across the university. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Healthcare Business and Technology, the full-time faculty appointment includes teaching responsibilities in data science, AI, and data analytics, overseeing program growth, and building partnerships within the life sciences and biopharma sectors that drive real-world impact within the school and the University. This role works closely with the Dean and industry-focused colleagues to forge new relationships, expand student experiential learning opportunities, and ensure our programs remain aligned with the latest industry trends.

In the additional role of Data Science Strategist for the University, the incumbent faculty member will report to the President and Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost to help guide the University in establishing a vision and goals that advance the application of data science within health sciences and health professions education at MCPHS.

This role is based on our Boston campus, offering opportunities for inter-campus collaboration and flexibility in scheduling

 

Strategic Leadership & Vision:
• Develop a strategy for prioritizing the assessment of health sciences and health professions curricula across the University.
• Collaborate with academic leadership (including our Centers for Excellence, such as Life Sciences, Research and Discovery, and Interprofessional Practice and Education), and faculty to assess existing curricula and offer guidance on integration of data science components.
• Develop and articulate a forward-thinking vision for the future of data science education, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the healthcare, life sciences, and biopharma industries.
• Identify academic opportunities that prepare the next generation of data scientists for roles in healthcare, life sciences, biopharma, and clinical sectors.
• Mentor faculty colleagues in course design that identifies opportunities for integrating components of data science, as well as assessment processes for data science course components.


Academic Program Development:
• Collaborate with academic leaders to design, implement, and oversee new data science programs and courses.
• Guide faculty with strategies for teaching data science that bring hands-on experience and real-world applications in class experiences and projects, including ethical, regulatory, and privacy considerations in healthcare data use.
• Lead curriculum development that bolsters the application of AI and data science techniques to life sciences, particularly computational biology, chemistry, and data architecture.
• Ensure alignment of academic programs with current industry trends and the needs of future employers.

 

Innovation & Industry Collaboration:
• Foster a culture of innovation and research related to data science, encouraging both faculty and students to explore cutting-edge solutions to real-world problems in healthcare and life sciences.
• Serve as a thought leader in data science, representing the School of Healthcare Business and Technology and the University by publishing and presenting research, and contributing to the global data science and life sciences community.
• Collaborate with the Center for Career Development to establish partnerships with key industry stakeholders, including biopharma companies, clinical organizations, and technology firms.
• Facilitate experiential learning opportunities such as internships, capstone projects, and industry collaborations to enhance student learning and professional development.

 

Program Growth & Management:
• Contribute and help grow current MCPHS initiatives that leverage the University’s internal and external networks to offer education and training in data science, AI, and data analytics.
• Build and lead a team of faculty and staff in the data science programs, overseeing program development and research opportunities.
• Collaborate with the Career Development Center at MCPHS to facilitate opportunities for data science experiences (internships, jobs, and other forms of training).
• Establish department goals, policies, and procedures in alignment with the overall strategic plan of The School of Healthcare Business and MCPHS.

 

Additional Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic direction for AI adoption, data set acquisition, analytic tool selection, and software appropriate for data science and analytics.
• Participate in service/volunteer activities and University and school committees as assigned; serve on regional, state, or national organization committees, representing the university.
• Engage in scholarship resulting in conference presentations, publishable manuscripts, peer-reviewed instructional materials, or other outcomes consistent with expectations for scholarly activities described in the Faculty Manual.
• Mentor, advise, and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, phone or email, and other University-approved mechanisms.
• Attend and participate in University and School meetings, University ceremonies, and other significant events, including commencement, retreats, and other on-campus meetings.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.
