About the Department
Position Duties
- Answer student questions; instructs in tool safety practices.
- Issue, collects, and inventories tools and supplies, requisitions replacements as needed, performs preventive maintenance and repair on tools and equipment.
- May fabricate replacement aircraft simulator parts and construct lab work areas such as paint booths.
- Operate a forklift when necessary to move equipment and/or supplies.
- Answer lab telephones.
- Check tools in and out and maintain the tool checkout system.
- Explain tool usage to students.
- Conduct a safety inspection before the beginning of each lab class and correct any unsafe condition.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
- Determine that students are competent to use potentially dangerous or highly specialized tools and equipment.
- Remind students to use eye protection and other personal protection items.
- Remove unsafe tools and equipment from service.
- Obtain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and keep them on file and available as required.
- Maintain adequate inventories of parts and materials used in the instructional program.
- Prepare tools and equipment for demonstrations by instructors
- Construct teaching aids, simulators, and other lab items.
- Keep an adequate supply of handouts and other printed material available for student use.
- Maintain printed and electronic manuals and other reference material for student use.
- Submit requisitions for tools and supplies.
- Submit work orders for the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.
- Perform tool and equipment maintenance according to checklists.
- Secure the facility at the end of the day.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the techniques and practices taught in both the airframe and power plant areas of college level aeronautics classes.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with instructors and others contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
- Ability to maintain and repair tools and equipment used in the aeronautics lab, to fabricate replacement parts, and to construct related work areas.
- High mechanical aptitude plus skills in drafting, machining, welding, and electrical work sufficient to perform required duties.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Ability to learn to operate a forklift.
- Ability to set priorities and organize workflow.
- Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.
Other Qualifications
Working Hours: Monday through Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm. Hours may vary depending on assignment Incumbents have routine contact with hazardous fumes from solvents, strippers, fuel, hydraulic fluids, etc. Noise from aircraft engines and various manufacturing processes is also common.

This is a full-time, 12-month, classified bargaining unit position. Starting date: As soon as possible. Range 19 of the CSEA Salary Schedule with a starting salary of Step A, $5,327/month. Excellent benefits package.
