TNTP is the nation's preeminent education nonprofit that brings research, policy, and consulting together to meet the needs and aspirations of young people, families, communities, and the nation. We are educators, researchers, and innovators working to ensure every young person has the chance to reach their full potential, every educator and leader is set up for success, and every community has the resources necessary to connect young people to paths of opportunity.
We work at every level of the PK-12 system, side by side with educators, system leaders, and communities across 41 states and more than 4,000 systems nationwide to reach ambitious goals for student success. Our vision pushes beyond school walls, catalyzing cross-sector collaboration to create pathways for young people to achieve academic, economic, and social mobility.

TNTP is leading an initiative, the Los Angeles Teacher Preparation Pathway (LATPP), to support talented classified staff to take the next step in their careers to become teachers while increasing their economic mobility and serving the unique needs of students in Los Angeles County, especially students who are learning English or speak more than one language (multilingual learners or MLs). Through LATPP, we aim to prepare 460+ aspiring teachers to earn their credentials and serve students in grades TK-12. In addition, by learning from our participants’ experiences, we will inform public policy to remove barriers for individuals to earn their teaching credentials.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As an Effectiveness Coach, you will play a critical role in TNTP's teacher development initiatives and academic consulting work. Through internally created tools and resources, you will be responsible for the guidance and development of LATPP participants, most of whom are veteran paraeducators aspiring to become classroom teachers. This includes facilitating professional development focused on preparing educators to support multilingual learners in classrooms, as well as providing guidance in selecting a credentialing pathway that best suits their needs. This position is currently grant-funded through June 2027.
Some responsibilities and duties may vary, but the role of Effectiveness Coach includes:
Developing LATPP participants through our Skills Building Experience (SBE), a semester-long, whole-group professional development program focused on enhancing strategies and skills to effectively support multilingual learners in the classroom.
Supporting participants in their credentialing journey through advocacy, mentorship, guidance, and consistent check-ins. This includes providing general support before, throughout, and after the process of entering a credential program and providing guidance on teacher credentialing assessments.
Closely monitoring and tracking participants' progress regarding their credentialing steps and milestones through an established platform.
Collaboratively and independently identifying and implementing innovative solutions for improving the overall performance of the cohort, individual participants, and program components to meet contract goals.
Playing a supporting role in building organizational knowledge centered around teacher credentialing in the state of California and multilingual learner language acquisition pedagogy.
Visiting school campuses to observe LATPP participants in a classroom setting.
The expected travel expectation for this role is up to 20%. Travel will take place within LA County and mostly be limited to two-to-three-week windows during the Fall, Winter, and Spring SBE cohort sessions. The anticipated primary travel months for this role are November, March, and May, annually. In addition, as this position does entail travel, all candidates must have a valid Driver’s License (reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities).
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years of teaching experience.
Prior experience developing and coaching adults.
Experience supporting multilingual learners (MLs) and knowledge on best practices to support MLs.
Proven track record of building trusting relationships with other adults.
Previous experience designing and/or facilitating professional development for teachers.
Familiarity navigating the teacher credentialing landscape in California.
Special education experience preferred.
Ability to track and analyze data on participant and student performance to uncover trends and act strategically and effectively to improve results.
