What to expect during your internship:
Javelin’s Internship offers a 6-week programme where our interns will rotate across the Operations department and get to experience what it is like to work at one of the world’s leading commodity businesses.
Induction
In your first two weeks you will be fully inducted into to the business. You will have small group sessions covering each department to give you full oversight of how the business runs, alongside team building sessions with your fellow interns to build camaraderie. Our cohort of interns will go through the entire process as a group allowing for a shared experience with fellow commodity leaders of tomorrow. You will be partnered with a mentor for the entirety of your time at Javelin. This will be an industry expert who will guide you and fast track your learning experience so you can maximise your time in the firm.
Rotations
Following your induction week, you will rotate between the various operations teams where you will gain more in-depth knowledge into how these teams work and how they contribute to the success of Javelin, specifically their key role in the lifecycle across all of our traded commodities. This portion of the program is a crucial time where our interns will get a feel for the career opportunities available at Javelin whilst working with industry leading professionals. You will spend time with:
- Settlements: The Settlements team at Javelin manages the reconciliation, confirmation and settlement for the deals associated with our wide variety of commodity products within Javelin. Working with the wider logistics team and traders, they ensure that risk is captured accurately, and the debits/credits are made/received on time.
- Documentation: The Documentation team at Javelin manages the documentation of contract agreements with clients of our wide range of commodity products within Javelin. Working with the Logistics team and traders, they ensure that risk is captured accurately, and the full lifecycle of the trade is supported effectively.
- Trade Finance: The Trade Finance team is a core group inside Javelin responsible for providing liquidity for trade related working capital cycles. The team are essential in ensuring trade flows can continue across all of our various trading desks.
Research Project
You will have the freedom to become a change maker, taking on a research project for your final week in the business. Working closely with your mentor, you will draw upon your experiences and your own personal drivers to ideate a tangible opportunity or new process which Javelin could incubate and mature. At the end of the week, you will have the exciting opportunity to present this to the wider business, including the CEO. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to take your first steps into the commodity trading industry and get a genuine feel for what Javelin has to offer.
Requirements
Skills and Experience Required:
- Currently enrolled in a degree in a STEM, Business or Finance-related field
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- A strong interest in a career within the commodities industry
- Self-motivated and able collaborate effectively with a global team
- Time management and organisational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritise work
- Excellent communication skills (listening, rapport building, negotiation)
- A creative mindset with a flair for problem solving
