Work Schedule: This position follows a Wednesday–Tuesday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., providing consistent hours while supporting 24/7 citywide signal operations.

The Traffic Signal Systems Coordinator plays a vital role in keeping Greensboro’s streets safe and traffic flowing smoothly. This position ensures the City’s computerized traffic signal systems are operating effectively, efficiently, and safely. By coordinating system maintenance, construction projects, and contractor activities, you’ll directly contribute to the reliability of Greensboro’s transportation network.

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to monitor and maintain the operation of the City’s computerized traffic signal systems daily, ensuring all required functions are performed efficiently and safely.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the performance of signalized intersections and coordinating system timing and communication.
  • Providing technical support and coordination for signal maintenance and signal construction teams.
  • Coordinating with contractors and inspecting all work to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintaining awareness of applicable standards and monitoring changes in regulations.
  • Ensuring compliance with MUTCD and NCDOT standards for signal construction and maintenance.
  • Supporting data entry and work tracking in EAM work management software.


This position reports directly to the Section Manager and does not supervise staff.

Minimum Qualifications

What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. with 4 to 6 years of direct hands-on work experience in the Traffic Signal industry (i.e. Traffic Signal System Maintenance, Electrical Troubleshooting, and Inspection of Signal Installations).
  • “OR”No High School Diploma/G.E.D. with 8 to 10 years of direct hands-on work experience in the Traffic Signal industry (i.e. Traffic Signal System Maintenance, Electrical Troubleshooting, and Inspection of Signal Installations).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) certifications as a Level II Traffic Signal Technician and Traffic Signal Inspector.
  • Experience/extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of traffic signal construction and maintenance.
  • Experience/In-depth understanding of electrical safety precautions and occupational hazards.
  • Experience/working knowledge of MUTCD and NCDOT standards.
  • Experience using EAM work management software.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting plans, blueprints, and specifications accurately.
