TRADESPERSON

Tradesperson is under the direct supervision of the Crew Leader. The Tradesperson performs manual work in construction, maintenance and repair of utility infrastructure. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED:

  • Maintain a high standard of safety, conduct, and job performance.
  • Perform normal repair and maintenance activities on the utility systems that meet local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Complete work-order assignments, and assist other Tradesperson with limited supervision and direction.
  • Manually read meters, to include walking, bending, kneeling for prolonged periods of the day. 
  • Detect and report inconsistent meter readings and usage.  
  • Identify meter leaks and report observations to initiate service repair.
  • Use preventative maintenance and repair procedures to extend equipment life, and aid in the reliability and effectiveness of all utility field operation departments and activities.
  • Aide in on the job training of individual crewmembers in the proper use of tools, equipment, inventory, and utility safety. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to use technical skills and knowledge during the performance of assigned duties.
  • Demonstrate the proficient use of hand tools during the performance of assigned duties.
  • Identify jobsite hazards and take preventive action for the protection of crewmembers and the general public.
  • Relate any customer complaint to the Crew Leader or Crew Supervisor. 
  • Perform other tasks as may be required.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekend, and holidays beyond normal shift as required
  • Must be available for rotating on call duties

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to complete normal repair, maintenance activities on the drinking water distribution, and/ or sanitary sewer collection systems.
  • Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and aide Utility Technicians and Crew Leaders with complex utility repairs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with superiors and crewmembers regarding assigned task and the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to use all tools necessary for the daily maintenance and operation of the distribution and collection system.
  • General knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations for the proper operation and maintenance of a drinking water distribution and wastewater collection system.
  • Ability to perform duties other than those previously listed as may be required.
  • Using proper safety precautions, ability to work in trenches and confined spaces; indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, squat, twist, and stoop for extended periods of time while performing normal duties.
  • Using proper safety precautions lift 80 pounds, and pull, push or drag 120 pounds of installation and repair equipment or materials.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid State of Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Class D Water License issued by TCEQ or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class C Water License issued by TCEQ within 3 years.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class II Wastewater Collection License issued by TCEQ within 3 years.

DESIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of one-year of utility field maintenance experience.
  • Evidence of the experience, knowledge, skill, ability, and responsibility necessary to perform job requirements.

 

    TECHNICIAN

    Technician works under the direct supervision of the Crew Leader at all times.  The Technician has a basic knowledge of safety requirements, equipment operation, tool and material requirements needed to complete assigned task.  The Technician does not require any experience.

    EXAMPLES OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED:

    • Maintain a high standard of safety, conduct, and job performance.
    • Perform normal repair and maintenance activities on the utility systems that meet local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Complete work assignments as directed and assist with repairs with supervision and direction.
    • Use preventative maintenance and repair procedures to extend equipment life, and aid in the reliability and effectiveness of all utility field operation departments and activities.
    • Participate in on-the-job training of the proper use of tools, equipment, inventory, and utility safety. 
    • Demonstrate the ability to use technical skills and knowledge during the performance of assigned duties.
    • Demonstrate the proficient use of hand tools during the performance of assigned duties.
    • Identify jobsite hazards and take preventive action for the protection of crew members and the general public.
    • Relay any customer complaint to the Crew Leader or Field Supervisor.

      SENIOR TECHNICIAN

      Senior Utility Technician is under the direct supervision of the Crew Leader and/ or Crew Supervisor.  The Senior Utility Technician is knowledgeable on all safety requirements, equipment operation, and individual crew members’ abilities.  The Senior Utility Technician will have a minimum of three years experience in utility maintenance and possess Class II Wastewater Collection and Class C Water Distribution licenses.  The Senior Utility Technician will have a Class A Texas commercial drivers’ license.  The Senior Utility Technician shall be capable of directing the work of individual crew members during the absence of the Crew Leader.

      EXAMPLES OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED:

      • Maintain a high standard of safety, conduct, and job performance.
      • Perform complex repair and maintenance activities on the utility systems that meet local, state, and federal regulations.
      • Able to competently complete work order assignments with minimum supervision and direction.  
      • Use preventative maintenance and repair programs to extend equipment life, and aid in the reliability and effectiveness of all utility field operation departments and activities.
      • On-the-job training of individual crew members in the proper use of tools, equipment, inventory, and safety. 
      • Use technical abilities during the performance of duties and be capable of demonstrating a mastery of necessary skills and knowledge.
      • Capable of setting up a safe jobsite for the protection of crew members and the general public.
      • Relate any customer complaint to the Crew Leader or Crew Supervisor. 

      REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

      • Ability to repair, maintain and operate drinking water distribution, and/ or sanitary sewer collection systems.
      • Extensive knowledge of lift station and/or fire hydrant repair and maintenance.
      • Ability to operate the backhoe for excavation of utilities to repair.
      • Ability to communicate with superiors and crew members regarding assigned task and the proper use of tools and equipment.
      • Ability to use all equipment necessary for the daily maintenance and operation of the distribution and collection system.
      • Ability to work stand-by and complete emergency repairs on the water and sewer system.
      • Good working knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations for the proper operation and maintenance of a drinking water distribution and wastewater collection system.
      • Ability to perform duties other than those previously listed as may be required.
      • Ability to train and mentor assigned staff.

       REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

      • High School Graduate.
      • Water Distribution Class C and Waste Water Collection II issued through TCEQ.
      • Three years of utility field maintenance experience.
      • Valid Class A State of Texas commercial driver’s license.
      • Evidence of the experience, knowledge, skill, ability, and responsibility necessary to perform job requirements.
