Purpose
The Used Equipment Manager is responsible for the profitability, valuation, and lifecycle management of all used construction equipment. This role supports overall dealership performance by optimizing trade-in processes, accelerating inventory turnover, and maximizing return on assets. The position requires close collaboration with sales, service, and reconditioning teams to assess conditions, manage refurbishment costs, and execute timely resale strategies. The manager also builds external trade networks and leverages data-driven insights to position the dealership competitively within the used equipment market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inventory & Profitability Management – Lead the valuation, acquisition, and disposition of used equipment to achieve targeted revenue, margin, and turnover goals.
  • Trade-In Support – Partner with Sales to evaluate trade-in opportunities that drive new equipment sales while protecting used margin integrity.
  • Reconditioning Oversight – Work with Service to estimate and manage reconditioning costs, ensuring quality standards and timely turnaround.
  • Market Development – Expand resale opportunities through relationships with peer dealers, wholesalers, rental channels, and online marketplaces (including Deere dealer network platforms).
  • Data & Market Intelligence – Use internal systems, Deere tools, and market data (e.g., EDA, Machinery Trader, TractorHouse, IRON Solutions) to guide pricing and acquisition decisions.
  • Fleet Optimization – Coordinate equipment movement between branches and rental fleet to balance inventory levels and maximize asset utilization.
  • Marketing & Visibility – Oversee listing accuracy, photography, and online presentation of used assets to enhance visibility and customer engagement.
  • Customer Experience – Ensure responsive and professional communication with customers and internal teams through all stages of the sales cycle.
  • Reporting & Forecasting – Provide regular reporting on inventory aging, gross margin, and market performance trends.
  • Continuous Improvement – Stay current on industry trends, competitive pricing, and digital retail tools to continually refine the used equipment strategy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Agricultural Business, or related field (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience in equipment sales, asset management, or dealership operations — ideally within construction or agricultural industries.
  • Proven understanding of equipment valuation, residuals, and resale markets.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with dealership systems (e.g., JDQuote2, ExpertConnect, DBS, IRON Solutions).
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with sales, service, and accounting departments.
  • High attention to detail with a sense of urgency in managing fast-moving assets.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet company driving requirements.
