$55,386.00

Calendar:

Certified Exempt, 187 workdays

Benefits:

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New Hire Experience:

$500 for each full-time year of certified teaching or verified like experience

New Hire Education:

$65/hour of graduate level credits: BA +45 hours max, MA +60 hours max $1000 for advanced degrees

Certification:

Alternate teaching certification pathways available with a bachelor’s degree

 

Job Summary:

 

The ELD Itinerant teacher, acting as the district teacher for English Language Learners (ELLs) will provide English vocabulary, grammar, and conversation instruction to identified ELLs.  The ELD Itinerant teacher will be responsible for the implementation of the English Language Proficiency Standards, the Discrete Skills Inventory and district curriculum.  The ELD Itinerant teacher reports directly to site principal and the ELAD department.

 

Candidates must complete an on-line application which requires appropriate Arizona certification, valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card, evidence of highly qualified status, three letters of recommendation, and transcript of credits.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes district/state adopted material and curriculum guides in instructional planning and implementation
  • Continuously and accurately collects student achievement data using a variety of tools (e.g. assessments, projects, checklists, anecdotal records, portfolios, etc.), utilizes this information to make instructional and management decisions that will positively impact student achievement
  • Establishes positive relationships with classroom teachers and parents
  • Maintains open lines of communication
  • Attends and participates in professional development
  • Demonstrates a willingness to maintain a flexible schedule
  • Works collaboratively and communicates with other ELD Itinerant teachers
  • Demonstrates knowledge of related subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials
  • Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, language, ESL or related field
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • SEI, ESL or Bilingual Endorsement
  • 1-3 years of general teaching experience
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Second Language Acquisition
  • Experience managing a schedule across multiple schools or locations

  • Proficiency with tools like WIDA, ACCESS, or other ELD assessment frameworks
  • Knowledge of sheltered instruction, scaffolding, and differentiation
  • Managing multiple caseloads and adjusting instruction based on students' language levels and needs
  • Familiarity with educational technology and language-learning apps or tools

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently travels between schools, districts, or other educational facilities
  • May work in classrooms, offices, or small group settings depending on student needs
  • Provides support during classroom lessons, small group activities, or one-on-one sessions
  • Engages in meetings (e.g., Individualized Education Program [IEP] meetings, staff development sessions) and communicates with families and stakeholders
  • Frequent travel between schools or locations
  • Standing for extended periods while teaching or presenting
  • Carrying instructional materials, technology, or teaching aids (up to 40lbs) (e.g., books, laptops, manipulatives)
