The Resource Chaplain primarily provides spiritual care to patients and families in emergent situations ( (e.g. traumas, new diagnosis, or end of life). There are also opportunities to making room visits and communicating with interdisciplinary teams to identify needs of patients and families.Additionally, the Resource Chaplain will have opportunities to learn all aspects of the department’s work, including teaching spirituality classes in the Behavioral Health Unit, bereavement care, and the hosting of events (e.g., Annual Memorial Service, Butterfly Release).
The Resource Chaplain assures a continuum of quality spiritual care at Dayton Children’s Hospital.
Education
Bachelor's in Theology from an accredited program required. Master's preferred.
Certification
Documentation of current endorsement (or acceptable language in accordance with the applicant’s spiritual/faith tradition) received or reaffirmed within last 12 months required

Department Specific Job Details:
Provision of spiritual care to patients and families.
Primary
On call responsibilities (6-8 weeknights/per month; 3-4 weekend days/per month)
Provision of spiritual care in emergent situations (e.g., traumas, new diagnosis, or end of life)
Routine room visits to introduce spiritual care and assess spiritual needs.
Secondary
Teach spirituality classes in the Behavioral Health Unit
Provide bereavement care to families and via memorial events.
