FIREFIGHTER EMT functions include but are not limited to the following:Emergency Response:

• Respond to fire and medical emergencies and other related support calls, assessing situations upon arrival and determining appropriate response actions.
• Perform fire suppression tactics, rescue operations, and medical interventions according to established protocols.
• Utilize radio, telephone, and dispatch communications to coordinate emergency response activities.

Emergency Medical Duties:

• Provide emergency medical care to patients, including conducting physical exams, administering necessary medical treatments, and transporting patients to medical facilities.
• Maintain compliance with all laws and regulations regarding medication storage and handling.
• Complete medical reports, stock medical supplies, and document all services provided.

Equipment Maintenance:

• Perform preventative maintenance on firefighting and medical equipment, ensuring apparatus operates properly and safely.
• Identify and replace faulty parts as needed, documenting maintenance actions and reporting any issues.
• Assist with fire station cleaning activities and ensure station property is well-maintained.

Administrative Duties:

• Prepare and maintain reports, assist in planning department objectives, and contribute to the formulation of guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Stay informed about developments in firefighting methods and techniques by attending meetings and activities.

Community Education:

• Educate the community about fire safety by responding to inquiries, presenting fire safety tips to schools and businesses, and demonstrating proper fire extinguisher use and first aid procedures.
• Assist with public tours of the fire station and participate in community outreach events as needed.

Continuing Education:

• Maintain required EMT-B and firefighting certifications by participating in continuing education programs.
• Attend training sessions to enhance medical, firefighting, driving, and computer skills.

Other Duties:

• Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Experience: No previous relevant work experience is required.
• Supervisory: No previous supervisory experience is required.
• Certifications/Licenses
  • Class B Exempt Driver's License
  • DSHS EMT-B
  • TCFP Basic Firefighter
