FIREFIGHTER EMT functions include but are not limited to the following:Emergency Response:
- Respond to fire and medical emergencies and other related support calls, assessing situations upon arrival and determining appropriate response actions.
- Perform fire suppression tactics, rescue operations, and medical interventions according to established protocols.
- Utilize radio, telephone, and dispatch communications to coordinate emergency response activities.
Emergency Medical Duties:
- Provide emergency medical care to patients, including conducting physical exams, administering necessary medical treatments, and transporting patients to medical facilities.
- Maintain compliance with all laws and regulations regarding medication storage and handling.
- Complete medical reports, stock medical supplies, and document all services provided.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform preventative maintenance on firefighting and medical equipment, ensuring apparatus operates properly and safely.
- Identify and replace faulty parts as needed, documenting maintenance actions and reporting any issues.
- Assist with fire station cleaning activities and ensure station property is well-maintained.
Administrative Duties:
- Prepare and maintain reports, assist in planning department objectives, and contribute to the formulation of guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Stay informed about developments in firefighting methods and techniques by attending meetings and activities.
Community Education:
- Educate the community about fire safety by responding to inquiries, presenting fire safety tips to schools and businesses, and demonstrating proper fire extinguisher use and first aid procedures.
- Assist with public tours of the fire station and participate in community outreach events as needed.
Continuing Education:
- Maintain required EMT-B and firefighting certifications by participating in continuing education programs.
- Attend training sessions to enhance medical, firefighting, driving, and computer skills.
Other Duties:
- Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Experience: No previous relevant work experience is required.
- Supervisory: No previous supervisory experience is required.
- Certifications/Licenses
- Class B Exempt Driver's License
- DSHS EMT-B
- TCFP Basic Firefighter
