The Technology Services Department (TS) of the City and County of Denver use state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies to deliver and improve the systems, applications, and operations to our customers. What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $115,000.00 - $125,000.00/year, based on education and experience. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Saturday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s).  

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

What You’ll Do

The Information Security Team is currently seeking a Senior Security Analyst. In this role, you will perform advanced analysis of security events, lead containment and remediation of incidents, and improve detection and prevention capabilities. This role bridges operational response and engineering by tuning sensors, automating workflows, and collaborating with infrastructure and application teams to strengthen defenses.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-depth analysis of escalated alerts and incidents.
  • Lead incident response activities, including containment, eradication, and recovery.
  • Tune and optimize SIEM rules, correlation logic, and alert thresholds.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain security solutions such as EDR, firewalls, and IDS/IPS.
  • Develop and document incident response playbooks and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with system administrators and developers to improve security posture.
  • Contribute to compliance activities (CJIS, HIPAA, PCI DSS).

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for someone with some or all the following skills and experience:

  • Strong knowledge of network, host, and application security principles.
  • Skill in log analysis, packet capture, and forensics.
  • Understanding of MITRE ATT&CK and threat actor TTPs.
  • Ability to script or automate tasks (PowerShell, Python).
  • Ability to communicate findings and recommend mitigations to stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in cybersecurity operations, detection engineering, or incident response.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA CySA+, GIAC GCIH, or GCDA preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of administering information security systems to include any or all of the following: information security architecture, information security procedures and controls, physical security, attack & penetration testing, application testing, information assurance program gap analysis and incident response.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) clearance within the probationary period.
