The process engineer for a tank washing rack is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of all processes related to cleaning industrial tanks and managing wastewater. This includes improving efficiency, reducing costs, and ensuring strict adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations. The engineer works with cross-functional teams to identify and troubleshoot issues, implement new technologies, and maintain detailed process documentation.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Process Optimization
Evaluate and improve tank wash procedures to enhance safety, efficiency, and throughput.
Design and implement process control strategies for steam, water, and chemical usage.
Reduce wash cycle times and wash efficiency.
Optimize yard logistics and storage.
Develop and maintain wash procedures.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all processes meet state and federal EPA, DOT, OSHA, and FDA regulations.
Develop and implement process safety controls such as MOC, PHA, PSSW, etc.
Technical Oversight
Own process pumps and piping design, ensure engineering drawings are accurate and updated.
Troubleshoot issues related to pumps, boilers, automation systems, and other wash bay equipment.
Project Management
Lead all capital improvement and repair projects from start to finish.
Collaborate with vendors and contractors for equipment design and installation.
Manage project timelines, budgets, and documentation.
Data & Reporting
Determine appropriate KPIs for process management.
Develop quality controls for the vision of a “Loadable Tanker”
Maintenance
Directly manage all maintenance staff and contractors.
Develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance systems.
Required Skill /Abilities/Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
3+ years of process or operations engineering experience (tank wash or industrial cleaning preferred)
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
Work Environment:
Industrial tank wash facility; exposure to heat, chemicals, and loud noise.
Must be able to work both in office and don PPE for work on the rack.
Occasional weekend or after-hours support during project implementation or outages.
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes, will supervise the tank wash maintenance team.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel: 25%
