An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the Corporate Safety Team, helping Torbay Council meet its legal requirements in Fire Safety. If you are an excellent communicator, with a proven track record in effective risk management and want to be part of a committed and high performing service, please get in touch.

Candidates should have or are working towards a recognised Fire Safety Qualification, be agile and adaptable in their approach, and capable of travelling to sites across Torbay.

The post will cover a wide range of properties and sites, including schools, commercial developments, offices and heritage sites.

This position is for a fixed term until 31st March 2027.

This post requires a Standard Criminal Level Check.  This will show details of all spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions that have not been filtered in line with legislation.

Skills

Essential:
  • To be able to use an effective range of modes of communication including, email, telephone, formal and informal reports taking into account issues of confidentiality. 
  • Highly developed risk assessment, auditing, inspection and investigation skills. 
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records to provide accountability and deliverability. 

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Knowledge

Essential:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Electronic Fire/H&S Management systems and their application in the management of Fire Safety. 
  • Detailed and in-depth knowledge of risk-based management of Fire, including the prioritisation, mitigation strategies and escalation processes. 
  • Full understanding of the “competent person” role under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. 

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:
  • Demonstrated delivery of fire risk assessment programmes. 
  • Proven ability to be creative, using innovative approaches to secure engagement and promote good practice and legal compliance.
