Senior Lecturer Occupational Therapy  

We are seeking a full-time Senior Lecturer to join the Occupational Therapy team within the School of Healthcare Sciences. 

In this role, you will be supported to deliver high-quality teaching and contribute to the development of our subject areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will have the opportunity to pursue research relevant to Occupational Therapy, enhancing the School’s overall research excellence. 

We are looking for someone with a passion for student-focused, innovative teaching and a strong background in education. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of conducting and publishing research in a relevant field. You should be well-organised, collaborative, and demonstrate leadership qualities. 

Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent), and possess relevant clinical expertise. Current registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is essential. An enhanced criminal records declaration will be required. 

The successful candidate will be supported to participate in the Cardiff University Education and Fellowship Programme which will give you with accreditation as a Higher Education Academy Fellow on completion of the programme.

Salary:  £61,759 - £67,468 per annum (Grade 8).  Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE (for Teaching and Research post)  

To deliver research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and contribute to the development and enhancement of the school’s education provision. 

To pursue research excellence and inspire others to do the same.  

To support students in developing key knowledge and skills at undergraduate and/ or postgraduate levels. 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  

Teaching   

  • To deliver high-quality teaching and contribute to the pedagogic development of the subject area. 

  • To identify and lead opportunities for curriculum innovations and enhancements, including new modules and programmes, conducting programme evaluations, regular review of course content and materials. 

  • To act as module leader ensuring delivery of teaching in line with current curricular requirements, developing and applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.  

  • To undertake work associated with examinations, such as setting and marking assessments and providing student feedback.  

  • To act as a Personal Tutor and provide pastoral support to students, including supervising the work of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, the co-supervision of Postgraduate research students (PGR) and acting as a PGR progress review panel member as required.  

Research  

  • To undertake and lead research relevant to the field that contributes to the overall research excellence of the School. 

  • Publish high quality publications in peer-reviewed academic journals. 

  • To apply for external research funding to sustain research activities.  

  • To participate in national and international conferences and seminar and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of one’s own research and develop research networks. 

  • To participate in School and University research activities.  

Leadership  

  • To provide academic leadership by co-ordinating the work of others to ensure areas of research/degree courses are organised and delivered effectively.  

  • To be involved in the departmental level strategic planning and contribute to wider strategic planning processes in the University.  

  • To provide opportunities for staff development aimed at improving skills and knowledge in research and learning and teaching. 

Other  

  • To undertake and lead operational administrative responsibilities as requested by Head of School and senior management team  

  • To engage effectively with professional, commercial and public sector organisations, and other academic institutions etc., regionally, nationally and internationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional, national, and international profile.
