POSITION SUMMARY
The Dental Director provides superior quality, competitive value, and outstanding service in collaboration with the administrative team by providing leadership and direction for planning, organization, directing and evaluating the Clinical aspects of the Brevard Health Alliance Department of Dentistry. The Dental Director is also responsible to provide direct patient care in the dental department.
GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Doctor of Dental Medicine or Surgery degree (D.M.D. or D.D.S.) from an ADA-accredited institution.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Clear and active Florida Dental License
• At least 3+ years in a Director role or similar role
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association
• Nitrous-Oxide Inhalation certification or training as approved by the Florida State Dental Board
• Five + years of experience as a practicing dentist in a dental health care environment
• Practice management and personnel management experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Capacity to analyze issues to resolve problems in an efficient manner
• Ability to manage organizational goals and meet set expectations
• Attention to accuracy and specific detail for competent performance
• Effective organizational skills to complete responsibilities in a timely manner
• Collaboration skills required for community relationship building
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Provide direct patient care in the Department of Dentistry per contract
• Provides oversight of delivery of oral health across the organization by providers through direct supervision and audits; serve as a mentor and manage the resolution of practice related problems of provider staff
• Provide professional oversight for the dental assistants and dental hygienists
• Serve as a resource for consultation and referral for providers from other disciplines
• Provide oversight for the dental telephone triage system and its protocols
• Provide oversight for utilization and risk management activities as they relate to oral health
• Participate in review of patient satisfaction surveys and in resolving patient complaints
• Provide oversight for quality improvement activities establish annual goals, Uniform Data System (UDS) benchmarks and incentive protocols
• Monitor appropriateness of specialist referral and ancillary service utilization
• Responsible for after-hours calls in coordination with Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and providers
• Participate in oral health strategy plan by ensuring adequate recruitment of dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, and support staff
• Provide orientation and participate in performance evaluations for providers
• Participate in development of clinical staffing plans
• Attend administrative, staff, and Board of Directors meeting as needed
• Mediate professional disagreements
• Supervise all clinical functions of the Department of Dentistry including Quality Improvement and peer review
• Serve as a liaison to the dental community at large
• Commit professional time to community outreach activities
• Takes ownership and represents Brevard Health Alliance’s mission and organizational goals established by the executive committee. These include, but are not limited to: Productivity, Quality, Patient Satisfaction, and Employee Retention. It is the duty of each BHA employee to incorporate these goals into all daily work routines and strive to achieve and surpass all goals by working as a team. The mission and goals of BHA will be incorporated into each associate’s Key Performance Indicators and will be evaluated on a monthly and quarterly basis.
• Responsible for Department strategic planning and growth of the department
• Must complete all Dental providers evaluations timely
• Develop and maintain relationships with outside organizations to improve quality, patient satisfaction, and expand the program.
• Participate in an external Board of Directors
• Member of the local dental society
• Position will have 1.5-2 days a week of administrative time
• Responsible for applying and helping develop policies/procedures/protocols
• Responsible for ensuring Productivity of the department is met
• Responsible for ensuring Quality within the department is met
• Responsible for Provider retention/recruitment
SUPERVISORY REPONSIBILITIES
• Provides appropriate orientation and training for Associates in their respective department
• Delegates tasks and responsibilities to subordinates as needed for efficient department operations
• Evaluates Associate performance and complete Annual Reviews and submits to Human Resources (HR) within 30 days of Associate’s annual anniversary
• Completes 90 Day Reviews and submit to HR within 1 day of Associate review date
• Ensure adherence to Positive Discipline Corrective Action policy with appropriate supporting documentation submitted to HR
