Description
Little Flower Manor is seeking a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Occupational Therapist to join our team. The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct Occupational Therapy Services in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, ensuring the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained.
Responsibilities
As the Occupational Therapist, you will be delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. Your responsibilities will fall into several key areas:
Administrative & Quality Assurance
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct occupational therapy programs and activities.
- Develop and maintain occupational therapy standards.
- Assist the Quality Assurance Committee in developing and implementing plans to correct identified deficiencies.
- Develop, implement, and coordinate policies, procedures, and resident care plans.
- Maintain treatment records, resident files, and progress notes.
- Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the occupational therapy department.
Clinical Care & Consultation
- Review requests for occupational therapy and physician's orders.
- Evaluate the type of therapy most desirable after consulting with a physician.
- Interview residents to determine the type of treatment and schedule therapy.
- Administer occupational therapy in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate to residents and staff the use of medical appliances involved in occupational therapy (e.g., wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances).
- Recommend modifications or changes in the resident's therapy program based on evaluation of progress.
- Participate in the development and implementation of resident assessments (MDS) and care plans.
- Abide by the resident's decision whether or not to participate in treatment, while informing them of the consequences of non-participation.
Personnel & Staff Development
- Determine the staffing needs and recommend the number and level of occupational therapy personnel.
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of competent personnel.
- Provide guidance and training for new and/or less experienced personnel.
- Develop work assignments and schedule duty hours.
- Develop and participate in in-service education, on-the-job training, and orientation classes for newly assigned personnel.
- Maintain an excellent working relationship and rapport with the medical profession, health-related facilities, and inter-department personnel.
Requirements
- Education: Must possess, as a minimum, a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
- Licensure: Must possess a current, unencumbered Pennsylvania license to practice as an Occupational Therapist.
- Additional Training: Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative therapy practices.
- Specific Skills: Must possess leadership and supervisory ability, be knowledgeable of occupational therapy procedures, and have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, and policies.
- Annual Flu shot is mandatory.
Working Conditions
This position involves working in office areas, therapy rooms, and resident rooms. You must be prepared to:
- Sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during working hours.
- Cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position, including dealing tactfully with personnel, residents, and visitors who may be hostile or emotionally upset.
- Physically: Lift, push, pull, and move equipment/supplies in excess of fifty pounds. The physical demands are categorized as Very Heavy, requiring standing/walking most of an eight-hour workday with occasional lifting exceeding 100 pounds and frequent lifting of weights exceeding 50 pounds. You must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
- Work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Be alert for resident safety during any/all therapy.
- Be willing to perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident's blood/body fluids, including the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
