Primary Purpose:
Assist Speech Language Pathologist in implementing student IEP’s. Work under general supervision of the Director of Special Education and immediate direction of Speech Language Pathologist.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Associate’s degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or Paraprofessional Institute Certificate
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability/willingness to work with children with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to adapt to changes in routine and needs of students
Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Ability to use basic job-related equipment (computer, projector, copier, scanner, etc.)
Ability to work with and effectively communicate with diverse groups
Experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Implement and progress monitor student IEP’s under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist.
2. Assist SLP in preparing instructional materials.
3. Help maintain a neat and orderly learning environment.
4. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
5. Collect data daily, keep administrative records, and prepare required reports under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist .
6. Assist students with personal care needs, under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist.
7. Manage student behavior, to include implementation of behavior intervention plans and research-based behavioral interventions as directed by the Speech Language Pathologist.
8. Under the supervision of a certified Speech Language Pathologist or campus administrator, intervene in crisis situations and physically restrain students, within District approved procedures, as necessary for staff and student safety.
9. Establish and maintain appropriate communication and professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
10. Assist in supervising special education students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This may include cafeteria, bus, and recreational areas
11. Maintain confidentiality to comply with FERPA regulations
12. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
13. Perform other duties related to Special Education as assigned.

Equipment Used:
Copier, computer, audiovisual equipment, and specialized equipment or materials necessary to support student IEP’s.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
