Clinical Psychology Registrar
Fixed Term, Full-Time (80 hours per fortnight with a monthly ADO)

 

We are excited to invite applications for three Clinical Psychology Registrar positions commencing February 2026 to join our dedicated psychology team at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

 

As a Clinical Psychology Registrar, you will play a vital role within our mental health team, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support people with cancer and their families by addressing their mental health and psychosocial needs. Over the course of this two-year program, early-career psychologists will receive structured support to achieve clinical endorsement, gaining experience across a variety of departments and programs including the adult inpatient and outpatient consultation and liaison mental health services, ONTrac – the Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Services, Palliative Care, and Group and Systems work rotations. Services are delivered both face-to-face and via telehealth.
You will function as a fully registered psychologist, providing a comprehensive range of psychological services and contributing to clinical and quality improvement projects.

 

Key Responsibilities:
•    Actively participate in all aspects of the Psychology Registrar Program
•    Provide psychological assessments and evidence-based interventions to individuals, couples, families, and groups
•    Conduct risk assessments, manage triage processes, and make informed clinical decisions
•    Collaborate as a member of multidisciplinary teams, offering psychological consultation and advice (with supervisor support)
•    Liaise with medical teams, including attendance at multidisciplinary meetings
•    Deliver educational presentations as appropriate
•    Engage in ongoing professional development within the department and hospital
•    Maintain high standards of written and oral communication, ensuring timely updates to supervisors and the psychosocial oncology team
•    Keep accurate and timely clinical records, including contact and outcome data

Remuneration as per Medical Scientists, Pharmacists and Psychologists Victorian Public Sector (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2025. Grade 2, Year 1: (PK1) $94,478.80 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time) to Grade 2, year 4: (PK4) $106,906.80 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time) dependent on candidate experience. Position Summary

The psychology graduates will be integral members of the mental health team and will work collaboratively with a number of multidisciplinary teams to ensure that people with cancer and their families have their mental health and psychosocial needs addressed. During the two-years, the early career psychologists will be supported to gain clinical endorsement and have an opportunity to work across a number of Departments and Programs such as the adult inpatient and outpatient consultation and liaison mental health program, ONTrac - the Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Services, the Palliative Care Service and our  Telehealth Program 
Your responsibilities:

You will perform the duties of a fully registered psychologist providing a range of psychological services to people with cancer and their families and be involved in clinical and quality projects.
   
To support your development, you will have:

Skills

Essential requirements
  • Full registration (or eligibility for full registration) as a Psychologist by the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)
  • An APAC approved Post Graduate qualification to Masters or Doctorate level in Clinical Psychology 
  • Eligibility to enrol in the Clinical Registrar Program under PsyBA
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
Desirable requirements
  • Understanding of the work of a psychologist in a hospital or public health setting
  • Demonstrated interest in working with people with cancer and their carers
  • Demonstrated interest in working with people across ages

 

Key Accountabilities

1.Professional 
  • Commitment to professional development and learning to the registration standard of APHRA 
  • High level of written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner to supervisor, Head of Psychology and psychosocial oncology team 
  • Attends and participates in regular supervision and departmental meetings 
  • Engages in and contributes to development of psychology services at Peter Mac
  • Knowledge of the principles and application of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation and policies
2.Clinical Care
  • Provides psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment to individuals, couples, families, and groups 
  • Manages, conducts, and understands risk assessments and triages
  • Participates in multidisciplinary clinical review programs
  • Participates as a member several multidisciplinary team, providing psychological consultation and advice to other staff (with support from supervisor)
  • Maintains appropriate and timely records related to service delivery including contact data and outcome data and measures. 
3. Education & Research
  • Active engagement in all aspects of the Psychology Registrar Program 
  • Contributes to quality and research projects where appropriate 
  • Provides educational presentations as appropriate
  • Engaging in departmental and hospital professional and development 
  • Participates actively in regular team meetings and strategic planning
