Job Summary

The Workforce Development Coordinator manages a caseload of clients between 18-25 years of age in the areas of vocation, training, and career counseling. This position is also responsible for assisting un'ina and potential employees in job training, job search, and placement, as well as leading trainings on life skills, employability skills, independent living skills, and other soft skills necessary for clients to complete education and obtain employment. The Workforce Development Coordinator collaborates with Tribal programs, schools and community organizations to promote vocational training opportunities and equity for Kenaitze Indian Tribal members, and eligible Alaska Native and American Indians. The Workforce Develpoment Coordinator provides oversight and supervision for the youth workforce apprentice programs funded through the Education Department and assists in gathering data to monitor program success and meet all grant requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Makes program referrals to other Tribal services or community programs
  • Manages a caseload of clients providing career counseling services in order to lead clients to self-sufficiency
  • Reviews all cases to ensure quality and adherence to grant regulations
  • Oversees the placement of the youth apprentice program
  • Oversees efficient and effective utilization of programs, protocols and policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with supervisor and staff to ensure the Tribe's representation at essential local, state and federal employment meetings and activities
  • Leads trainings on life skills, employability skills, independent living skills and other skills necessary for clients to complete education and obtain employment
  • Acts as a consultant to other Kenaitze Indian Tribe departments when working with un'ina with multiple needs
  • Ensures workplace safety guidelines are followed for staff, vendors and un'ina
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's Degree in Education or Human Services related field, or a combination of education and experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree

Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience in community based programs
  • Experience working with Department of Public Assistance, Department of Education, and other State and Federal agencies
  • Experience in the development of community program strategies
  • Experience managing private, state and federal grants; and grant compliance

License/Certification

  • Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire, or within 30 days

  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to evaluate needs assessments to meet the needs of the population to be served

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred

  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
