Position Overview:
Teaches, advises, and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested.
College/Department Overview:
The College of Liberal Arts currently has 130 full-time and 82 part-time faculty in 9 academic departments and/or schools. The College serves the University's Core Curriculum programs and enrolls more than 2,236 undergraduate students and more than 233 graduate students in 34 undergraduate and 17 graduate majors. The English department offers four undergraduate degree tracks (Creative Writing, English, English Education, and Technical Writing) and houses three undergraduate minors (Creative Writing, English, and Technical Writing) and two interdisciplinary minors (Asian Studies and Film Studies). Position Title: Assistant Professor of English
Position Announcement:
The Department of English seeks to appoint a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with a specialization in global, world, and/or comparative literatures. We particularly welcome applicants who might contribute to our Asian studies and film studies interdisciplinary minors and/or whose interests would help support MA thesis projects on global literatures and literatures before 1600. The Department of English at the University of Central Oklahoma is committed to creating a welcoming environment for all.
Duties and Responsibilities:Teach four courses (twelve hours) per semester, including World Literature I and II, first-year composition, and upper-division and cross-listed undergraduate-/master’s-level courses, as well as graduate-only seminars, in areas including but not limited to world literatures, comparative literatures, and literatures before 1600, as well as other courses that complement instructor expertise and departmental need. Direct and serve on M.A. thesis committees; engage in service at the department, college, and university levels; and maintain an active program of research, scholarly, and/or creative activity.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in English (or a directly related adjacent field) and a commitment to high-quality teaching are required. Preference will be given to applicants who have at least two years of experience teaching in a college or university setting.
