Title:                                      Working Maintenance Coordinator

Reports To:                             Director of Operations

Employment Status:                Twelve Month

 

General Description:

The Working Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, training, and working with maintenance and contracted custodial staff to build human capacity regarding the maintenance of school facilities and equipment; performs and demonstrates maintenance duties which relate to the school plant, school building, facilities, equipment, and grounds operation.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. At least five years of experience in maintenance work
  3. Ability to demonstrate high-levels of knowledge regarding maintenance
  4. Ability to train and direct the work of maintenance staff
  5. Have a valid Michigan driver’s license
  6. Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record

 

 Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

  1. Advises the Director of Operations regarding facility maintenance schedules, priorities, and project/capital work
  2. Train, assess, and evaluate the performance and proficiency levels of staff in performing maintenance tasks
  3. Advises the Director of Operations regarding staff performance to help to inform him/her of any needed areas for corrective action, additional training, and assignment of tasks
  4. Accepts the responsibility for the care, condition, appearance, and repair or replacement of all physical equipment, buildings, facilities, and grounds
  5. Recommends purchase of necessary parts for repairs to supervisor
  6. As state, city, and township codes permit, does maintenance work in the trades of plumbing, heating, electrical, painting, and carpentry
  7. Performs motor and equipment maintenance
  8. Performs grounds work – summer and winter
  9. Conducts periodical inspections of the building to determine areas of needed repair
  10. Assists in the promotion of good safety practices and procedures
  11. Establishes inventory procedures for supplies, materials, and equipment
  12. Assists in the development and operation of maintenance records
  13. Serves as a source of information in areas involving buildings and grounds
  14. Access and maintain computer maintenance program to plan and organize work requests
  15. Completes paperwork as required by the maintenance supervisor and the district administration
  16. Keeps informed of new maintenance techniques and operations

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent, human beings.
  2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
  3. Conducts other duties related to the custodian’s duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Superintendent of School

 

Additional Working Conditions:

  1. Occasional exposure of blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  2. Occasional interaction among unruly children
  3. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions

Miscellaneous:

 

  1. Flexible hours as dictated by maintenance work and may include calls on nights/weekends
  2. May be required to drive his/her personal vehicle and provide their own transportation within the district as well as to job-related functions outside the district
  3. May come in contact with blood-borne pathogens in the course of fulfilling the responsibilities of this position
  4. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district
  5. Needs to be open and receptive to feedback from teaching staff and administration
  6. Is responsible for any and all other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor and/or Superintendent       The
