- Will be required to be available on call for weekend and after hour emergencies to support school sites. On call rotation weeks will be divided among available utility technicians. Will carry the on-call phone and remote access laptop during assigned times. Will be compensated based on hourly rate, on-call stipend and minimum 2 hours pay per maintenance contract when reporting to a site for a call.
- Coordinates with Student Nutrition Services (SNS) Program Leadership in resolving equipment issues in a timely manner.
- Inventory all SNS equipment.
- Research, advise and make recommendations for new equipment. Meet with vendors to define equipment specifications and installations.
- Participate and make recommendations for all SNS construction projects.
- Apply for gas/electric rebates for qualifying commercial FS equipment.
- Oversee and coordinate yearly preventative maintenance schedules.
- Oversee and coordinate hood cleaning and Ansul systems yearly clearning and review schedules.
- Replace and maintain filter systems for combi ovens, steamers, etc.
- Track maintenace and repairs of equipment in software databases.
- Manage and perform repairs to kitchen appliances within scope of license and in compliance with all local, state and federal codes.
- Coordinate and work with contractors as necessary to obtain repair estimates and supervise site work.
- Record all needed repairs, inspections, boiler checks and make repairs estimates and supervise site work.
- Ensure buildings and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
- Load/unload SNS trucks. Deliver SNS products as needed.
- Move up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools to remote building locations.
- Stand on ladders and platform lifts, at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of time.
- Perform essential maintenance to the facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: reaching, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level, twisting of the waist, shoulders and legs, and lying on stomach and/or back.
- Perform general and specialized maintenance to the building structure or carpentry components including flooring, walls, ceiling, or built in cabinets and attaching various items to building structure.
- Maintain daily upkeep of assigned vehicle and equipment.
- Work under the supervision of the Facilities Assistant Manager and SNS Manager.
- Perform other duties within the level of responsibility assigned by the supervisors.
- Minnesota Driver’s License
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Building Utilites Mechanical Certificate preferred.
- Experience working with commerical food service equipment.
- Must be insured by the district.
- Use of electric walk-behind pallet jack; maintain operator certification through bi-annual training.
- Forklift certification preferred.
- 1st Class C Boiler's license required. Will consider a 2nd Class C at the time of hire but must obtain 1st Class C licensure within the appropriate time frame as directed by the MN Department of Labor and Industry or the Rochester Public Schools Facilities Department.
- Current Registered Unlicensed Electrician or obtain within 90 days.
- Current Certified Pool Operator License or obtain within 90 days.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional customer services skills.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work in the most effective and efficient way.
- Ability to work effectively with others and utilize effective team-building skills
- Basic carpentry knowledge.
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- Basic plumbing knowledge.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of building automation programs.
- Knowledge of commercial building hot water systems, steam boiler plants and chilled water systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC air handlers, pumps, fans, motors and other associated equipment.
- Knowledge in food service equipment maintenance and refrigeration systems.

SALARY: $27.60 (entry level) to $31.98 per hour plus an additional rate based upon licenses held.
