General Statement of Job: The Associate Vice President (AVP), Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight in managing the daily operations of the hospital and its entities. This includes:
- Establishing systems to ensure the delivery of high-quality care
- Promoting sound fiscal operations and cost-effective services
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies
- Monitoring organizational service and delivery systems to ensure alignment with the hospital’s mission and community needs
- Collaborating with the Lakeside Advisory Board and Medical Staff leadership on strategic direction and policy development
Essential Functions:
Strategic Leadership
- Participate in the development and implementation of strategic plans with District leadership, Medical Staff, and senior management.
- Establish and achieve goals aligned with organizational pillars: safety, quality, service, financial, and people.
- Think strategically while adapting to change, building coalitions, and fostering teamwork.
- Advocate for the institution and its mission.
- Influence, adapt, and deliver measurable results.
- Lead the creation and execution of operational action plans.
Financial Responsibility
- Provide leadership in financial management, policy recommendations, and fiscal oversight.
- Ensure effective utilization of financial and physical resources.
- Recommend actions and strategies to respond to economic and utilization trends.
People Management
- Ensure attainment of hospital objectives through effective workforce management.
- Apply consistent performance standards and address performance issues decisively.
- Provide guidance, support, and development opportunities for staff.
- Foster collaboration and strong human relations.
Board and Community Relations
- Coordinate activities of the Lakeside Advisory Board and set priorities.
- Develop agendas and maintain communication with District leadership.
- Represent the hospital in community activities and promote awareness of services.
- Perform emergency duties as required (e.g., Red Cross shelters, disaster response).
Specific Skills Needed
- Knowledge of managing complex service organizations in rural and turbulent environments.
- Experience in matrixed public organizations and with community support boards.
- Ability to collaborate with physicians and medical staff.
- Understanding of healthcare financing (HMO, PPO).
- Ability to delegate effectively while guiding senior subordinates.

Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, or related field required
Master’s degree preferred
Experience:
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience as a senior hospital executive
Previous experience in a rural setting and in a publicly sponsored hospital preferred
Certification:
Fellowship with the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) preferred
