Alamance County Government is seeking a dynamic and experienced Benefits & Wellness Manager to join our Human Resources leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to shape innovative benefits and wellness programs that support our employees and their families, while ensuring compliance and fiscal responsibility.  As a trusted advisor and strategic partner, the Benefits & Wellness Manager will lead the administration and continuous improvement of the County’s benefits and wellness programs, while fostering a culture of employee well-being. This role plays a critical part in attracting, retaining, and engaging a high-performing workforce dedicated to serving our community.

As a key member of the HR leadership team, the Benefits & Wellness Manager will serve as a strategic partner, innovator, and trusted resource for employees, managers, and County leadership.


Position Duties

  • Program Leadership & Strategy
    • Design, manage, and continuously evaluate employee benefits, wellness, and leave programs to ensure competitiveness, compliance, and fiscal responsibility for self-funded health plans.
    • Partner with brokers and vendors on plan design, cost effectiveness and long-term benefits strategy.
    • Lead wellness initiatives and employee engagement efforts that promote a culture of health and preventive care.
    • Lead annual benefits open enrollment processes.
  • Administration & Compliance
    • Administer leave programs and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
    • Maintain accurate reporting, records, and audits for benefits programs.
  • Vendor & Contract Oversight
    • Serve as primary liaison with benefits vendors, brokers, and the Employee Health Center.
    • Manage contracts, negotiations, and vendor performance.
  • Employee Support & Communication
    • Serve as a resource for employees with complex benefits questions and directly coordinate issue resolution with vendors.
    • Develop communication materials, training, and education sessions related to benefits and wellness.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, public administration, or a related field. Five years of progressive senior level experience in benefits administration. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Strong knowledge of public sector benefits administration, vendor/contract management, and wellness programming is preferred.

Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy in benefits data, payroll coordination, and compliance documentation
Innovation: Identifying and implementing new benefit structures and/or wellness programs
Program Evaluation: Measuring ROI and impact of wellness and benefits programs
Adaptability: Adjusting to changing benefits regulations and/or workforce needs
