About the opportunity

The Australian BioCommons and Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH), University of Sydney are seeking an AI in Research Training Lead to design, deliver, and scale a national training program on the effective and responsible use of artificial intelligence tools in life science research.

This nationally significant role will empower researchers to apply AI methods to tasks such as text and code generation, data analysis, and literature synthesis, while building critical awareness of their limitations and ethical implications. Based at the University of Sydney, you will join a collaborative and diverse team committed to inclusive and open training and digital research capacity building across the life sciences and beyond.

  

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  

  • work closely with trainers, bioinformaticians, and data scientists at Australian BioCommons and Sydney Informatics Hub to identify training needs and create training opportunities

  • deliver national, high-quality, hands-on training in AI methods tailored to life science research

  • design, produce and present new training materials aligned with international best practice and evidence based pedagogy

  • contribute to the delivery of the Australian BioCommons national training program through workshops, webinars, and reusable digital resources

  • represent Australian BioCommons and Sydney Informatics Hub in national collaborations with universities, institutes, and research facilities.

About you

  • postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

  • demonstrated experience developing and delivering training in AI, bioinformatics, or digital life sciences

  • strong working knowledge of AI, data science, and computational approaches used in the molecular life sciences

  • practical experience with research computing tools and languages (e.g. Python, R, shell scripting)

  • proven ability to develop reusable training resources

  • experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
